Tommy Smith

I really don’t rate the guy

He’s ok when not in possession and seems to have good qualities as a leader and a person

But RB is an area that needs improvement irrespective of what division we are in next season

He’s who you want starting RB in the Prem?
I trust Carrick to make that call.

What I do know is though Smith has been brilliant since Carrick came in and our win percentage with Smith in the team is absolutely outstanding. He is much more than just a good team man, he’s a proper solid championship right back. Give him some credit ffs

We can worry about that if and when it happens.
In the here and now, he’s playing brilliantly, adds a lot to the team, is a proper fighter and he has that ever so slightly nasty streak that we’ve been lacking for years.
Fantastic free agent signing, up there with Watmore and Bamba in terms of excellent speculative low cost additions who add more than just their on field footballing ability to the group. Credit where it’s due, the much maligned recruitment department do get it right sometimes.

Irony is he was signed, I assume, to replace Peltier as the utility player across the back or brought on with 15mins to shore things up.
He is absolutely, categorically not a RWB in Wilders system. He's a genuine out and out RB. So Wilder sacked, Jones has a huge drop in form .....and Smith gets his chance which he's well and truly grasped. Funny game football.
Is he good enough at PL level - who knows, but I'd certainly be happy if he's handed a contract and given a chance. Remember, Hackney wasn't good enough for the Championship so ........
