We are spoiled with Dieng between the sticks and Glover had no chance with either of the goals but he doesn't look terribly assured with the ball at his feet and nearly got caught once last night. He's definitely second choice and rightly so.

By his selection , are those in charge telling us that Zach Hemming , Sol Brynn and Liam Roberts are all worse goalkeepers than Glover is.
If they are then it's obvious
1) Why are they still on our books .
2) They nothing about goalkeeping ,makes Joe Lumley look like Schwarzer

Glover didn't do anything wrong last night - Dieng wouldn't have saved either of those goals - the first was an absolute worldie and the second took a deflection.
Although he looked a bit nervous at times, it's to be expected of a keeper who isn't playing consistently, and I thought he did alright.

Goalkeeping also has three very different roles - and every club has a defined first, second and third choice.
Ben Foster has a pretty good podcast on Youtube and regularly talks about his relationships with his second choice keepers (Boaz Myhill at West Brom and Gomes at Watford), and the different roles they had - often claiming Myhill was one of the biggest factors in his own success as a #1.

Second and third choice keepers are needed for training routines, and developing younger players (Nathan Fisher and Henry Popple (our U21 keepers) regularly train with the first team too).

Tom Glover has clearly been brought in to be a second choice, and Jamie Jones has been brought in to be third choice. They'll have both known that situation before they signed.

Sol Brynn and Zach Hemming are still only 23 years old - and they're playing every week in L1 and the SPL for their loan clubs, so they are seen as future #1 keepers (whether that be for Boro or another club is still unknown), but to be a #1 you need experience as a #1 - Staying here as a second or third choice doesn't help their #1 development, as it's a different role.

I've only seen Glover at the two Bradford games. As Muttley said, he's not as assured with our "playing out from the back" style as Dieng... but otherwise seems solid enough.

At least this good cup run has allowed him to get a few games under his belt in time for Dieng going to the AFCON in Jan

At what stage of the cup run do you bring Dieng in?

I know that teams like City will let their 2nd choice keeper play right through to the final (hence Steffen's howler a couple of years ago). But for them cup runs come around all the time.

But for me if we are at QF stage now that is too big a game for a club like us. These cup runs don't come round too often and we want our best team out there. Hoping that we haven't promised him he can play every game

Good point. If we get Liverpool or someone in the QF I’d definitely be going full strength including the keeper

From what I have seen from Tom, is that he always seems to have the ability to drop a clanger, but once that’s passed he appears to grow into the game and looks fairly solid. Like the other new recruits, he probably needs game time, but with Dieng as first choice, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, barring injuries or suspensions.

Isn't that why we signed the other fella, whose name escapes me ?

Edit:- Jamie Jones, the guy from Wigan

We signed Jamie Jones because both Dieng and Glover are going to be out for 4 games at the same time during the African/Asia Cups.

Jones played 17 championship games for Wigan last season, so I assume he's seen as being capable of playing 4 games this season.

Nathan Fisher, our U21 keeper will probably be on the bench for those games too.

I didn't realise both were away in Jan.

That's hardly 'ideal'. Although I guess we must have known when signing them.

I guess this means we will be without Mcgree and Silvera?
