Tom Davies

Everton player supposedly training with us. Could be an inspired buy at this level. Nothing confirmed, just twitter talk.

Loads of energy but limited ability. Maybe could do a job as a CDM but not sure he’s got the defensive discipline.

I’d say he’s an upgrade on Mowatt, not quite as accurate with the ball but a lot quicker, more mobile and has bags more energy.

Is he an upgrade on what we have? Some saying it would be a 'coup' if we signed him
I guess the coup bit is that he’s played his entire career at prem level. 161 games, 60 are sub appearances.

Reminds me of Todd Cantwell, in that he’s always moving but nothing ever comes off. Dropping to champ level could be the making of him with a bit of extra space, or, he may continue flattering to deceive and see his career head south. It’s really a tough one to tell with him

You look at his pedigree and it's hard not to think he'd be a good addition. But then hard to see where he fits in if he's not a defensive midfielder and seems Everton fans think not.

He's not going to replace Hackney and Barlaser is already essentially back up there anyway.

You'd think him and Hackney together in a 2 would be too lightweight.

Unless we're thinking of a formation change to 3 in midfield.

Training with us suggests we're not sure too.

Get the feeling that Davies would be a bit of a revelation in the Championship. He’s in essence a box to box midfielder (with more of the second box sense really, he does like to move about and bomb forward), feel that criticisms of his physicality are somewhat unfair from Everton fans given the pace of the top flight and the fact he’s struggled with injury. I seem to remember that when he broke through and until those injury struggles, he was a natural ball winner in midfield - a move down a tier could reawaken that style of play especially with more opportunities to have time on the ball.

Could he do howsons job, I don’t think many of us see him as a classical defensive midfielder in the mould of George Boateng which Davies equally isn’t?
I mean maybe.

Howson doesn't have to be a destroyer type effective because his reading of the game is ridiculously good.

That said we could've done with a Boateng type in some games last season.

We need a more aggressive CDM to take the pressure off Howson, athletic, gets stuck in. A Boateng type. By the sounds of it, Davies is not that type of player.

Always looked a decent tidy player for Everton, and they offered him a new deal which he turned down. So can't be THAT shyte.

Trust Carrick and the staff on this one👍

I think he can be that type of player to be honest, Everton have rarely trusted him in that role, think Davies qualities are, good on the ball, athletic, gets stuck in, can travel with the ball, all things Which are similar to Howson. And the fact he would be dropping a division means he should adapt. If there is an option there to sign him and he’s keen. It’s a no brainer for me

No way do I believe this player would be a “revelation”. He has lost his way and Everton fans happy to see the back of him. Toxic Tom they called him.

No team quick to sign him as a free agent. It’s a firm No Thanks from me.

He is a player that I always thought fills a gap and little else, always buzzing around the play but never really influencing the game to any significant degree.

Everton offered him a new deal, he could have accepted that and been a bit part again. But he’s turned it down in the search of game time. Hardly ‘toxic Tom’ maybe not quite good Enough to be starting for them Tom.

He will have plenty of suitors in England and abroad.
