Tish (Murtha)

I've just watched the BBC4 documentary on Newcastle photographer Tish Murtha, and it's well worth a watch. It features some powerful photographs of children playing in working-class areas, scenes that some of us of a certain age might relate to.

I recorded it from BBC4, but it should be available on iPlayer.

I thought @HarryVegas might be interested in this.

Apologies if this has already been discussed.

Yeah I watched it a few months back. Big fan of hers, she was remarkable really. I thought the saddest thing in the whole film was seeing one of her brothers so damaged by alcohol and substances and the ravages of their awful upbringing.

Documentary was amazing, I've been thinking about incorporating some of her methodology into my own work as a result.

What a champion of the working class she was.

Got this one at home. Love it.

I wonder if our paths crossed when we both lived in Gresham. Tragic to think she could not get any financial support for her work when she lived in Middlesbrough.
Bob Fischer interviewed Tish's daughter on his BBC Tees programme when I was the other guest. It is remarkable how she is bringing her name and photography back into the spotlight. A great lost talent rediscovered. Tish would be so proud and thankful to her daughter.
