Marcus Bettinelli - 7

Nothing he could do about the goal, but deserves huge credit for an important save two minutes before Britt equalised for Boro. Scott Hogan went very close to doubling the host's lead, but for Bettinelli's outstretched foot.

Anfernee Dijksteel - 6

A tough afternoon for the Dutchman who we shouldn't forget is playing while not quite 100%. He struggled to deal with Jeremie Bela early on and he provided the goal and every other Birmingham chance in a bright 25 minutes. But credit to Dijksteel, he stuck to the task and Bela was withdrawn second half as Boro took over.

Dael Fry - 7

Another solid outing. Had a brilliant battle with Scott Hogan throughout and but for getting the wrong side once early on, he dealt with him very well. So commanding against Birmingham's long-ball bombardment.

Paddy McNair - 8

The most composed player on the pitch. Strong in the tackle and brilliant in possession, he regularly set off Boro on attacks down the left-wing.

Marc Bola - 7

Another solid showing from Bola. Nothing threatening came from Birmingham's right wing and he also played the ball into Assombalonga for Boro's first.

Sam Morsy - 7

Could have perhaps helped Dijksteel a bit more early on as Bela threatened. But he otherwise mopped up a lot of second balls well as Fry and McNair won their headers.

George Saville - 7

Typical hard-working midfield display from Saville, getting involved as much as he could in a game where the midfield where often like a tennis net with the ball hammered back and forth over them. Great anticipation and run into the box to put Boro ahead.

Lewis Wing - 7

At times sloppy in possession as he looked short of match practice/fitness. But you can't argue with the outcome of two goals, even if both might have been saved by the goalkeeper.

Marcus Tavernier - 6

One of his more disappointing outings of late. The long ball style of the game didn't suit him and most of Boro's threatening moments came on the left with him out

Marvin Johnson - 8

Superb showing once again. Another assist to his name and a display that summed up Boro overall as he regularly ran and chased everything to help his team.

Britt Assombalonga - 8

A close shout but probably just edged man of the match in what was a superb, battling centre-forward display. He never stopped from minute one as a lone striker, hassling defenders and breaking in behind off their shoulders. A proper centre-forward's goal too, as he rolled his marker and then played a crucial role in the fourth.

Weird.. it seems like the stats disagree with crazy craig an all. It’s almost like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

are these click bait ratings or what?

George Saville rated 7/10

shut the front door!

no way, it’s not even a matter of opinion on this one.. it’s just wrong and embarrassingly so.
I'd have given him a closer to a 9, he was immense, and for Tav? Its a minimum 7 with his energy, a minimum. Astonishing that CJs actually is paid for this. I imagine Neil will be impressed at these ratings 🤣

The manager gets stick when he gets it wrong, the players get a hard time if they make a mistake.. this lad has had an absolute nightmare!

Craig Johns 3/10 - click bait ratings from the new guy. Really need to stay switched on during matches to avoid embarrassing mistakes in future.

You`re right. "crazy Craig" is so used to watching sunlun and Man U hes forgotten what effort and skill really is and how hard work counts.

Dael Fry deserves to be in the team of the week. As for crass - Craig, Fry and McNair together deserve a 9. Tav was immense and deserves an 8. Sav deservs an 8 Anfernee isnt properly fit but deserves a 7.Bola and Morsy - 7. Betinelli - another game-saving save - 7.

Johns has a dig at Wing calling him "sloppy" like he was in a practice match, then excuses him for being unfit and having something to do with two of the four goals! He claims their goalie should have saved them anyway - so Wing was crap and lucky then?!:mad:

Its a sad reflection on national media that local newspapers are no longer local - they have a skeleton staff to fill a job: all the online Headline Banners are the same [because all the titles are owned by the same company]. The template for the page lay-outs and, more importantly the content, has a formula which is reflected across the country.

Freelancers and citizen journalists could do a better job.

We know how well our team did - we`ve been following them years and we really do "know the area".

At least Dominic Shaw rescues the Gazette a few times a week(y)

I don't mind the player ratings - that's just opinion and clickbait. I suppose we were a bit spoiled with AV, but CJ's prose really is leaden.

He'd probably give himself a 2/10 for consistency

They were all a 5 until we scored the first goal, especially the midfield. Birmingham’s heads massively fell when we scored that goal and allowed some freedom on the pitch.

I think he’s spoilt himself there by being daft. I’m not expecting 9s all round every week. But 7/10 for Saville is shocking, 6/10 for Tavernier is way out. I can’t even begin to figure out where he is coming from. Overly harsh on Dijksteel too who performed well despite not being 100% fit.
