Threat down the left, time for Payero to step up ??

I don't understand the optimism around Payero, If we see anything positive from him this season it will be a bonus.
He showed very little when he was here last time. He's hardly teared up the Argentinian league with Boca. I've not personally been to any of the pre-season games but chatting to people who have seen him play, the feedback is underwhelming.

I'd be surprised if he plays anything other than a very minor role this season and he'll be gone once his contract expires.

I agree - fans have this weird habit of thinking players get better and better when they're not in our team, and complaining about the players that are.

I watched a lot of pre-season and Payero was "okay". I didn't think he was bad, but I didn't think he was great either. I have exactly the same opinion on Coulson - he's been "okay" too.

Well I don’t understand the pessimism about him.

Maddo himself said it that he is worth looking at.

Payero has the advantage of being foreign, and if he were called Martin Parker and was from Walsall, people wouldn't be trying to find a way to fit him into the team.

I'm not saying he's rubbish (haven't really seen enough of him) just saying a non playing foreigner, particularly from South America, seems to grow in talent the longer he's out the team.

If Coulson doesn't get in at left back ahead of Riley McGree he might as well pack his bags and leave after the game on Saturday, and I'd be astonished if that happened !!!
Think McGree may start there tbh. Coulson was so far away from looking at the required level

I agree he is worth looking at - but why do the majority of fans think Payero is and Coulson isn't? - If Coulson was South American would the opinion be different?

I think they are both not good enough. McGree left back for me with Silvera left wing as bold as that would be. Unless we sign a left back early this week 🤞

Forget the radio pundit I’m talking about maddo who spends time with players in training at the club.
He hasn’t done much in pre season mate. Not totally writing him off but from what I’ve seen I’d be surprised if he’s in contention for a start any time soon. Suppose we’ve got the Huddersfield cup game where he will have a chance

Because he was rubbish in his first spell with us and he's shown nothing to suggest he's improved.
MC might find a way of getting a bit more out of him and it's great if he does.

Can't see how you could make any justification for playing him in front of others at the moment though unless he's showing something outstanding on the training ground that he's not shown on the pitch yet,

I'd be astonished if he could pack his bags and go, but he probably should. Not the right level.

I know he does, but because a club employee says "he might be worth looking at" doesn't really create a concrete case for him playing - he's hardly going to say "forget him, he's rubbish" is he?

I agree both Payero and Coulson are squad fillers and shouldn't be starting. I think Coulson will start against Millwall but I think a new LB will already be #1 priority.

The point is that Payero seems to get his plaudits where Coulson doesn't based on nationality alone.

If Payero was from Ashford instead of Argentina, and Coulson was from Gremio instead of Gateshead - would the opinions on their football ability be reversed too?

I don’t rate pre season look at how half arsed the pace was.

He’s our player so let’s use him
