Those Middlesbrough players who 'want out' shouldn't play again this season - Dominic Shaw [Gazette]

He said something on the interview after the match about a player probably on the phone to his agent now saying "get me out of here".

Who is it?

Of those who played yesterday, hopefully not McNair, Hall or Watmore. Otherwise I'm not too bothered.

To my mind, if you have a core squad of

Djiksteel Hall Fry McNair Bola
Tavernier Morsy Howson Saville
Watmore Johnston

You're not far off.
Need a good keeper and striker
Then backup for positions

Wood, Fisher, Akpom, Browne and even Wing can be good backup
Akpom is not good enough to be backup
Johnson is leaving
Saville not good enough on a regular basis

I don't disagree that Akpom's not good enough, but Walker is worse.

I disagree on Fisher, he's had a few poor games but I think he's largely been fine and for a £300,000 back up, I'd say fine is acceptable.
Walkers probably one of them most gifted players Ive seen in our Academy in the last 20 years. That doesnt always translate to first team level but I wouldnt write him off just yet but time will tell. I certainly wouldnt be getting rid.

Neil, I am afraid I can’t agree with you. A lot of the players named have been involved to quite a degree this season. A season resulting in disappointment and failure to get to the playoffs. There is nothing to suggest anything will change with the core of players we hold.
I did say we are missing 2 (essential) ingredients. Take every game this season and add a decent keeper (Randolph) and a striker who can hold up a ball and score at least one of the two "on a plate" chances Bolasie had yesterday and I think we would be in the play offs now.

He can't buy a game for a bottom half League One Crewe side, and he wasn't getting a game for MK Dons either.
He's always looked well short in his few appearances for us too.

Still only young, so he could come good, but I'm doubtful.

I am sure Saville will be on Warnock's list too.
He dropped him, never mentions him and he's only playing as Warnock has so few options.
If he's not on the list above with Assombolonga, then he should be.
Assombolonga is a given.

You’re right, he never mentions Sav, but he only gave him a contract extension recently (?) and Sav doesn’t appear not to be trying so I’m not sure he will be on the list.

In my opinion we only have three top Championship players. Fry, Tavernier and McNair.

I would be happy to keep three others. Grant Hall as is the archetypal Championship “big“ centre half. Not particularly blessed with pace or quality but will stick his head on everything and score from a couple of set-pieces. Dijksteel (when not injured) is young lad who has shown in flashes he is quick and strong and can do a job so happy to have them two also around the squad. Duncan Watmore has pace to get in behind and is top scorer despite playing half the season and been unfit for quite a while so I honestly think he can be better next season and with a full pre-season behind him.But the rest...........

Well there’s nothing is there? I love Jonny Howson, but like Clayton and Leadbitter before him, he has done well for the club but his legs have now gone. Morsy has no legs to begin with. It’s been embarrassing seeing him flounder and tried fouling as Championship midfielders run past him and Howson. Saville (I can’t even believe I’m saying this myself) is probably the one of the 3 I would rather keep as he at least grabs a few goals a season but my word we wont be in the play-offs if he is a first choice starter. Our left hand side is a disaster. Need two quick strong players as Bola, Johnson and Coulson have demonstrated poor defensive work when in the side and the quality of crossing has been a joke this season. And strikers??? What strikers? All flops and need to go. And as it stands we will not have a keeper on our books at the end of the season who has ever played a league game so this is a priority.

With the pandemic we cannot realistically bring in 5/6 players so even more reason why we need to hope the youngsters are good and even more reason to blood Malley, Jones, Coburn and Kavanagh in the remaining games. If we can get 2/3 good players in the summer (GK and Striker are a must) then we can maybe get another 2 in Jan to have a play-off push but I really do think we will struggle next season.

Agree with every single word there - especially about the quality of crossing (y)

I agree with 99% of that, but being an eternal optimist, I think we will do well next season, but we must get in who we want and not our second and third choice players. (y)

We’ve got nowt to play for. The cynic in me thinks Warnock might send a mixed bag of a team to Rotherham on Wednesday, probably containing one or two kids. If we win it’s a big plus, if we lose then at least it’ll help out his old club a little bit.

I expected that yesterday, but with the exception of changing the keeper he went with the same old faces. I know he has Bolasie and Kebanos on loan, but I wouldn't expect either to be here next year, so what does he get playing them instead of Coburn, Hackney, Malley or Coulson?

I think we need to add to the same positions as January; the attacking part of the team, plus a keeper.

The loan signings haven't really worked fir me, in that the shape of the team rarely looks balanced to me.

And of a that we do need, a quality centre forward is easily top of the list.

How many games has Walker played Shaun, I woukd hazard a guess & say just a fraction of what Fletcher who has been an expensive flop has played, yet we persisted with him thinking there was a player there

I fact I woukd say the only time Fletcher has been well thought of was when was he was out injured for a while & our strikers continued to under perform, it actually made him look better

Surely the question that needs to be asked is...Why don’t these players want to be here?
Is it the brand of football we play?
Maybe more likely to be the wages we pay, they probably think they are worth much more.

Maybe there’s the isolation of living in the far flung north with its arctic weather and it’s distance from the “beautiful south” (!)

Agreed.(y)

Weve had nothing to offer up front for a good few years.

If Troy Tempest had shoved a Saturn Five rocket up our forwards arzes the blummin things would fizzel out before they got to the half way line.

Slightly left field, a concern for me is that the players that are out injured, become injury prone, and we only see them in fits and starts. That can be as disruptive as players wanting to be away.

Spot on.
Its like "make-do-and-mend".
You cant sustain momentum but there is no alternative at the moment.
We will be ok.
