This story in Belarus is incredible

Ryanair flight FR4978 was en route from the Greek capital Athens to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on Sunday when it was diverted to land in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. Data from flight radar suggests the plane was in fact closer to Vilnius than Minsk when it was forced to land.

Last I heard there was a **** storm brewing

The Belarus military force a commercial flight to land at the behest of the President is a shockingly misuse of power and must go against some NATO laws (not sure there are any but it sounds right 🤷‍♂️)

Anyway, at the very least we should be avoiding Belarus airspace and not allowing any Belarus flights to come or go as an immediate sanction

Heard also the flight had some anti government journalist on board, that was subsequently arrested

A very aggressive act by Belarus

It just shows that when you in a country’s airspace you are basically in that country, it scary that this could happen.

Is it really that incredible given who and what Lukashenko is and has been for 26 years?
The fact he did it from 30,000 feet on a plane not bound for Belarus I’d at yes it is.

it’s like something from a bad Steven Seagal movie

You just know Putin would have given the green light for this.

Putin and Lukashenko don’t like each other. It’s true that Putin has designs on Belarus but over the years Lukashenko has played Russia and the West very cannily so as not to get too close to either.

However, the recent protests and undemocratic election have lost him favour in the West and this should further alienate him and push him into Putin’s arms. He’s playing a very dangerous game that could lead to a giant mess as the people have been on the streets and not because they want closer ties with Russia…
