I've been to Robin Hood's Bay. Does that count?I have met people from the Robin Hood family (no, really!!).
No, not unless it belongs to the Earl of Huntingdon.I've been to Robin Hood's Bay. Does that count?
Do councils require a unanimous vote on the local budget or would a majority be enough? It's totally right, and every party has on occasions have a 3 line whip, that's always the case when it comes to the budget.
There is a legal requirement to set a balanced budget, the governing party has to put one forward and have every right to demand its members to agree it.
Our budget has been in negotiations for 4 months, all councillors from all sides have had chance to give input, ask questions and make proposals that would provide a balanced budget, officers work round the clock to ensure whats proposed is balanced and possible, so yes all parties should and do expect its members to vote in favour of its budget.
It requires a simple majority, at least Middlesbrough's constitution does.Do councils require a unanimous vote on the local budget or would a majority be enough?
No budget would ever pass otherwise. It requires a simple majority, at least Middlesbrough's constitution does.
Then would it not be better all round if the odd dissenting voice was allowed? It would reinforce the idea that the party is a broad church. It requires a simple majority, at least Middlesbrough's constitution does.
Absolutely this. Banning minority dissenting voices is very much a trait of the right. Then wold it not be better all round if the odd dissenting voice was allowed? It would reinforce the idea that the party is a broad church.
There is dissenting voices all the time, indeed quite often from me, but not on the budget. Then would it not be better all round if the odd dissenting voice was allowed? It would reinforce the idea that the party is a broad church.
Surely this is when the dissenting voices should be heard the most, when central government cut back funds so drastically that towns and cities can no longer provide for their people. When libraries, youth clubs bin collections and street cleaning can no longer be afforded, this should be the time for dissent. There is dissenting voices all the time, indeed quite often from me, but not on the budget.
I went Uni with Robin Hudson (Tru story)I have met people from the Robin Hood family (no, really!!).
Did he inherit his father's tights?I went Uni with Robin Hudson (Tru story)
Well, the problem is, if a budget isn't supported then it's the people that we all represent that pays the price. Someone always pays, and when a budget isn't passed it's the residents. I for one am not interested in dissenting voices, we all have strong principles, it's why we are in politics, but my priority is our residents not principles.Surely this is when the dissenting voices should be heard the most, when central government cut back funds so drastically that towns and cities can no longer provide for their people.
