This isn't about Carrick (in a good way)...

After the likes of Warnock and Wilder who made it all about them and were forever in the news moaning about something, isn't it refreshing to have a calmer and more understated manager in charge. Whilst he is making all of the difference, he isn't making it about him.

I was thinking exactly the same after Boxing Day. Wilder in particular seemed to think it was all him. The stories coming out certainly support that theory.

Carrick seems to understand it’s all about the players. Create the environment for them to thrive and the football improves. Also find a system that suits the players. Not be totally single minded with one formation regardless.

TBF I think that’s largely because his managerial profile hasn’t really been built in the media yet. Yes he’s doing well, but his “character” hasn’t really become a talking point as yet. He’s a decorated but unspectacular ex player with a fairly low key approach to fame. This understated attitude will be used as a stick to beat with him at some point when he inevitably takes us through a tough spell. Like it was for Southgate (and still is to a degree!).

But for now, let’s just enjoy a great run of results. Not a single team in the league should he anymore buoyed than us at the moment apart from the top 2 who are basically out of sight.

He very much seems to be focussed on the players. Not sure he's talked much about his own ambitions or abilities as a manager (if at all).

Pulis, Warnock, Wilder, it was very much all about them. Even Woodgate bigged himself up quite a bit (although that was partly trying to convince himself maybe!).

I think the fact we've brought this Aaron Danks fella in as an "individual" coach is quite telling too. Seems the ethos is very much on trying to improve players while they're here. Not just about results on the pitch. Which of course aligns with the recruitment model.

Pulis, Warnock and Wilder didn't give a **** about improving players. They all wanted "finished products" who could deliver immediately and none had the patience for developing players.
