His wife was one of my teachers at St Peter's in Brotton. Bout 73/74 if I remember correctly.

He had a nice little sports shop in the Dundas Arcade before he moved abroad, bought a pair of footy boots in there and he was a really nice bloke. His son played in the Teesside league for Redcar Albion in the early eighties.

Bill Gates Sports was his shop. Every Saturday afternoon he had the Boro team that day as a display in his shop-front. I remember being quite awe-struck when he served me in there. Seemed like a nice bloke. I remember his testimonial against Leeds at the end of the 73-74 season.

Foggysplandiet3 welcome aboard (y)

His sports shop in the Dundas was way too small. He moved to the Hill Street Centre when it first opened in the early 80s. My lasting memory of him was selling me a pair of Patrick Keegan boots which I absolutely loved at the time 😣

When I first read that I thought Patrick Keegan might have been a person.

NZBoro1, we went to the same school although I was just before you.(y)

Ha yes, Mr Johnson the Sports teacher was a typical sports teacher, amazing tash, big bloke and clearly had the female teachers swooning around him. Mrs Bielby was something else - dear me she taught me a thing or too
