Remember that game well. Boro fans singing We are top of the league' and the police battling with Sheff Utd fans getting wound up through the wire mesh separating the away fans. Great atmosphere. Great team and old ground. UTB

Rippers signed for Blackburn and came back to ayresome with them pretty soon after .... He couldnt control a ball, said afterwards his head was all over and couldnt play against Boro at Ayresome... anyone else hear this?

Yes, can’t remember his quote verbatim but it was something along the lines that the crowd / occasion had been like a big syringe and sucked all the energy out of him
 
Was at that game with my 9 year old. Remember Beagrie playing to the chant "you should have stayed with the Boro ".

That is spot on, he also remarked that a few of the Blackurn players were joking & laughingvas the bus drove in to Middlesbrough & close to AP, Stuart Ripley said to himself, ths is my town, my people, where I grew up

I don't think so. It was the fag end of the era when some matches didn't have any TV cameras present, and I think that was one of them.

I've definitely never seen the goals... which is a shame, as it's one of the few home matches in that era that I missed! I was 15 and skint, and decided I just couldn't afford to go. I actually said to my Mum about an hour before kick-off "They'd better not win 6-0..."

Would love to be proved wrong about the highlights if anyone can find them.

tvvats.... remember sitting in the terrace seats in the North stand and Rippers was over by the chicken run ... ball came to him and he just froze .... didnt know what to do .. got tackled... he got subbed not long after... Loved Rippers.... Boro lad through and through..... tough as nails as well
 
God this makes me feel old. These are very much the names that I grew up with and attended almost every home game.

Nothing to worry about other than going to AP and a paper round😂

That said pretty sure I didn't attend. God knows why. I chuckle at the fact we only had one sub.... Madness to think of that now.

I'm not sure if Kernaghan was a CB or Forward then? Maybe a bit of both.
