After making over 400 appearences for the mighty Boro, scoring 28 goals & acheiving his childhood dream of, not only playing for the club he supported but, becoming a legend, a captain & manager, returned on this day for a well desewrved testimonial with his new emplyers, Celtic

8th September 1982, Bobby Murdoch gave both, Paul Ward & Mogga, their debuts in an away derby clash with Newcastle

Bobby had given Mogga one job & a hard one at that, to man mark Newcastles Kevin Keegan, he must have done a good job as he kept Keegan & Newcastlle quiet with the Boro coming away with our 1st point of the season when Darren Wood scored our equaliser after Mick Channon had scored his one & only Newcastle goal

Boro's team
Stephen Pears
Gary Parkinson
Alan Kernaghan
Nicky Mohan
Willie Falconer
Bernie Slaven
Mark Proctor
Paul Wilkinson
John Hendrie
Tommy Wright

Paul Wikinson scored our goal in a 1-1 draw infront of 20,566

Don't remember anything about the game, but i do remember the fighting on the pitch in front of the East Stand, along with Page going "it's supposed to be a friendly".

I remember the queues of Celtic fans outside the offy in Linthorpe village waiting for it to open. It was 9am.

I remember huge groups of Celtic fans all over Middlesbrough, and them taking over the entire East end.

This might be my memory playing tricks, but did the police escort loads of them out of the Holgate and down the touchline before the match kicked off?

I think it was 1-1?
