This was Bernies 15th goal of the season & 6th Boro career hattrick, the 88th at AP & 126 in total as a football league club, this was the 2nd time in 2 seasons Bernie had bagged 3 against Brighton, he done it the season before at the Goldstone ground, I was at that game

Will always be a special player to me.
That goal against Chelsea alone makes him a legend in my eyes.
Always remember that goal, in particular my run of thoughts at the time ........................

Ball hoofed out to Bernie on the wing, he bears down on goal the angle becomes increasingly tight. A number of Boro players are in the centre of the box to pass to but he shoots from a narrow angle and it's saved. The ball bounces straight back to him and he tucks it way.

My thoughts at the time: ................. pass the F***ing thing ................... Slaven you greedy b****d .............................. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!

Great stuff. What a man!

A better all-round player than he's given credit for.
I know we think of him as a penalty box (6 yard box?) striker, but I think he was pretty decent on the ball too.

I don't know how he'd fare in the modern game; not a 1 up front forward, but he may be the one on the left of the 3.
