That particular tie went to a second replay back at AP. When the FA Cup was so important you could have 3rd and even 4th replays.

Was just around the time I started going to AP regularly. I was a big fan of Arthur Horsefield. It still amazes me to see Willie Whigham in the team - feel like I'm in some sort of time warp....

In the game at St James Mc mordie played centre forward,York had a very tall C/H called Jackson who played very well against our normal tall C/ forwards in the first 2 games but Mcmordie ran rings round him.Horsfield was a much underated for us despite scoring 51 goals in 110 games

Willie Maddren made his reserve debut against Halifax Town at Ayresome Park, replacing Bill Gates

Willie says, Bill was kicked in the fragile part of the body by Mark Pearson a former Man Utd player, quite probably retribution for one of Bills aggressive tackles, which saw Bill stretchered off

Grew up in Marske over the road from Bill and family, used to play footy with his lads Dave & Nick and my eldest brother was his first "Saturday Boy" when he opened his first shop. Lovely bloke who's done a lot for all sorts of people over the years. Great servant to the club and all round top Fella!
