As the mighty Boro ran out 4-0 winners at Belle Vue to record a double over our Yorkshire neighbours, give us a goal, give us a goal, John O'Rourke, John O'Rourke scored the 4th that day, taking their goals to the season to 22 & 18 respectively

His hattrick was the only one of his Boro career, the 38th different Boro player to score a treble, our 27th away & 104th in total as a league club

I think it was an evening kick off , because of the race meeting nearby. When the Belle Vue gates weren’t open as the race meeting was ending, a few of the racegoers lifted the double gates off their hinges and laid them on the ground and just walked in.
Jimmy Irvine scored the other goal, in what was one of his last games for the Boro

Three players - Hickton, O'Rourke and Arthur - scored hat-tricks for the Borough that season. Interesting too that we had (at least) two different home shirts that season as evidenced by those two pictures.

remember being in Blackpool that season for the Boro game with my sister and then-boyfriend. Walking along the front he said to my sister - there's Arthur! She immediately started singing Arthur - ( clap, clap, clap). It was the man himself - he just raised a massive smile as he passed us! Oh and we got turned over 3-0, all goals scored inside 30 mins.

Arthur ended his career at Dartford and has a street named after him on the site of the old ground on Watling Street which became a victim of Maidstone United's ill-fated attempt to become a League club. There was an article about him by @Picto_Leng in the MSS magazine.
