Scored his penultimate Boro goal when netting our 1st goal in a 2-2 home draw against Portsmouth, Bill Harris scored our 2nd goal that day

Wilf scored 9 goals in his final season at the Boro, which seen him score 110 goals in 368 appearances, between 1936-54

I had the pleasure of knowing Wilf and stood and had a pint with him on a few occasions. He was also a neighbour of ours when we lived in South Bank and he would join in our game of football on the way to the bookies. At the time we use to think he was just some old bloke spoiling our game and never associated him with the footballer who's trophies and England caps were on display in Heagney's shop window.
