This day 1936 - Micky Fenton scored his 2nd Boro career hattrick

The Red Lion - not often but

the best Red Lion story I know was a relative of mine was able to source mushroom spores at the end of the last war. As I am sure you know in days of yore they used to grow them in horse manure.

At the back of the Red Lion were some stables......... you're getting there. Hence a deal was struck with the then landlord to grow the spores in the spare manure and split the profits.

All his daughter ever said to me was I don't remember much money coming home from that enterprise !!

I should have perhaps commented that Mushrooms were in very short supply at the time and the price could have been good as they were not on "coupons".

My recollection of the old building was that it was a bit barn like and not that many folks in

preferred the Grotto me self or the Zet

When the mighty Boro beat Man Utd 3-2 at Ayresome Park, in a 1st division fixture, it was the 46th hattrick at Ayresome Park & 62nd in total as a football league club

Micky Fenton went on to score a total of 9 hattricks throughout his Boro career

Another Boro goalscoring legend

Nice thread this! My Dad loved Mickey, Grandad’s fave was Camsell, I idolized Cloughie and we all enjoyed Reas👍😊

Erimus I'd have been glad to see Camsell but it wasn't possible. He finished before I was born !!

My mother was the greater Boro fan and always refers to the fact that Dixie Dean scored 5. She also referred to Tim Williamson a lot too.

Without wishing to get into "that" debate again We always had Paccittos ice cream and it is virtually the last reason left for a visit to Redcar. I still long for Ellison's Pork Pies but they are no more, sadly

Tim Williamson still the only Boro keeper to score a goal in a competative game

Hmm ? Erimus. Do penalties not count ? I've forgotten the name of that goalkeeper we had on loan who played at Liverpool when we lost 14-13 on penalties. He took one and scored if I remember correctly

Jamal Blackman. Didn't he concede 31 or something? Great quiz question this one!

Blackburn I think, no only penalties in games before shoot outs
