When we played at home to a Derbyshire mining team called Staveley in the 1st round

Archie Pringle is credited with scoring our 1st ever FAC goal, which was the only bright spot of the game, as we ended up losing this cup tie 5-1

The match report described the game as a physical encounter, which seen several Boro players require hospital treatment
 
When we played our 1st FAC match as a league club, which was at home to Jarrow in 1899, we lost that also
 
Robert Eglington scored the goal v Jarrow in 1899 thus becoming the 1st Boro player to score on his hkme, away & FAC debut, all in the same season
