This belittling of Chris Whitty

I think they have had to rein in their own opinions for the sake of the greater good, in a volatile situation I think adding dissent to the mix would not have helped, I think they've been clear and tactical in letting the general public know when their advice has been ignored without totally undermining the Government.
As public servants they try to maintain the separation of powers at all times. Their personal views are kept under wraps at all times

Agree with this; they clearly have some political acumen themselves, in the wider sense of the phrase, otherwise they wouldn't be at such senior positions. Part of their role is to promote confidence in the collective response - airing dissent in public would achieve nothing and work against what they are trying to achieve.
