Things made from Middlesbrough steel

Lots of railway stations in the UK have columns with DL on them but nowadays they use this very thick paint that covers the writing up. Cargo Fleet joists on Slough station. My dad spotted DL sections in the railway station in Tokyo, 1945.

Oil and gas platforms, and pipelines on the bed of the north sea. Heavy section jumbo columns used to support sky scrapers, rail steel sent to Workington supporting rail networks world wide. Never mind the normal section/special sections structural steel shipped worldwide. Coil plate once rolled here, used for automotive and white goods. Rod and bar, wire steel. heavy plate for shipbuilding.
British Steel did provide the plate for Rolls Royce car bodies once upon a time and the stuff for the north sea orders was of a grade and volume the rest of the world could only envy for a time.
How times have changed.

I worked down the Rod Mill before we were called out on strike in 79. Another story another thread. Must admit we moved some steel around the World in them days. Hard work for a 16 1/2 year old working long shifts and even nights.

Estação Central Capiba / Museu Do Trem Do Recife... A retired train station and now a train museum in Recife, Brazil. Built with Boro steel and opened in 1888. I visited the museum a few years back and looked everywhere for a picture of the stamped steel but couldn't find it!
