Our teachers used to prefer to use the ruler on the palm of your hand when I was in primary school. They'd ask if you were left handed or right handed first so that they didn't beat the hand that you had to write with.

I was quite anti-smoking back then and I made my ashtray in the shape of a coffin and presented it to my dad, who was a smoker. in an attempt to persuade him to quit. He did quit a few years later and now I smoke about forty a day.
