Well in my experience that couldnt be further from the truth

John Hickton is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, iconic Boro legend we have, I've met him numerous times & he's always appreciative with the warmth he receives from Boro fans, he can't speak highly enough of the club

You can feel his love of the club when he talks about his time here, a fine example of a club & player from out of the area who were a perfect fit

He'll talk & listen to fans all night long, to anyone about his time here, he just loves the club

Big John played 482 games over 11 seasons for the mighty Boro, between 1966 & 1977, scoring 185 goals & those penalties

My all time favourite Boro player.Saw his first game for Boro and met him several times. I hope his health is improving.

Erimus i echo your sentiments, i remember when i was 6 years old having a kick about with none other than juninho when he was first here, i then met him again about 3 days after the Carling cup win, what a really nice and down to earth guy! See also Gareth Southgate he was a very nice bloke. And gaizka!

I took my son to the legends Boro v Charlton 4 years ago, as we sat took our seats Bernie Slaven came over & said John Hickton is at the game today, I asked Bernie if he would take mev& my son to meet him & he said I'll sort it out after the game
Boro won 3-0 Bernie came over & took me & my young un to the ex players lounge, now growing up my son & daughter have heard wall to wall stories of King John & now, he was going to meet the icon
John Hickton coukdnt have been any friendlier to my son asking him about his football etc
We had a photo taken of the 3 of us with BS taken the photo & you can see his photo in the window, awesome

I shook his hand when I was 10. Shock of my life when my dad brought him in to our house to buy his second hand blue VW beatle. It would be a bling mobile now . If you meet him again mate ask him if he remembered.

Last year my daughter got married, on the say of the wedding my daughter handed out gifts to the parents & bridesmaids
I took mine in to the kitchen, it had a Boro hip flask & two cards, one about being the best dad, which I knew about the 2nd was a Boro card with a personnel message from the man himself, wishing me all the best, along with a personnel photo which he signed
I broke down reading it, a personnel message with my name at the top from John Hickton
My daughter had wrote to him telling him she was getting married & said he's my hero
Late last year I went to the John Hickton night at Ormesby, I took the card & showed it John & his daughter, she was happy the card reached me
