These 'I'm alright Jack' posters....

...do you ever get the impression that they are not actually alright?
tory voters? I think the difficult thing is being convinced of the alternative, the status quo is the easiest to go along with and Labour haven't really been convincing by going against their principles and attacking their own.

they're doing their best, I don't need hand outs and all the supposed money that benefits are costing us seem to be quite common themes and thoughts.. add into that the scaremongering of asylum seekers receiving benefits and putting extra strain on the nhs.. then pretty soon you will have folks trusting the likes of boris and co.

labour wreaked the economy (in the global worldwide crash caused by american sub prime mortgages) but the tories didn't wreak the economy.. it was covid.. giving away all those uncompetitive contracts out to their mates, giving them hand outs and record breaking tax giveaways.

corbyn would have wreaked the country, by rolling back corporation tax levels and investing in jobs and infrastructure.. but boris spunking more money out to his mates was what was best for the country.. the magic money tree turned up and it was a forest!

I'm thinking back to a thread where I said I was going to take advantage of the government's proposal for funding for home efficiency improvements. I believe the specific phrase I used was 'hammered' and you (Sherlock) took it to mean that I was abusing the system and you maybe assumed that I was one of those 'I'm alright Jack' people. I am in a pretty good place financially and I'm grateful for it, but it doesn't make me blind to the problems that people are having.

I was a Tory voter in my 20's, but now in my mid 40's, I'm a lot more left leaning, to the point when I took a political test, I came out Lib Dem with some Green aspirations. I'm quite happy with that position really. I would never ever vote Tory again in my life based on the last 12 years. So much anger at how public workers are being mistreated. I fully support the strikes, even if it does personally affect me, because this is a bigger issue that needs a fundamental shift from the current Government position.

I start work volounteering at a local foodbank in a couple of weeks time. I can't do as much as I would like due to work commitments and having a disabled child, but I want to do something to help, and this is the first way I know how.

I would never ever say 'Phuq you, I'm alright, you can suffer', because I know how quickly my life could be upended and I could be relying on the very services and people I once mocked. Karma has that habit.

Sorry, went on a bit longer than intended.

Once again, another FMTTM thread trying to out people who don't fit a 'subjectively' acceptable profile. I am 'alright' thanks, in both the regards that you allude to (OP), but I've worked bloody hard and made hard sacrifices for 30+ years. I give and have given much, and will continue to do so for as long as I can. I'm well travelled and have seen countless countries that are significantly less empathetic than the UK. Some that I would only return to under duress because of what I have seen. In a nutshell: 1. Yes, the UK should do more. 2. Yes, our systems are open to abuse and are abused. 3. Yes, the UK is a wonderful country that is sadly being mismanaged. Unfortunately, speaking openly about No. 2 and and aspects of No. 3 can get you into a whole world of trouble these days. I do get it, there are some despicable doyles that scream their bile from behind our flag and make you ashamed to hold the same passport. But we should be also allowed to call out nonsense when nonsense it is. 'Still looking for the middle ground' may end up being on my epitaph.

That would be funny, knowing once you've passed on, you're technically under it :)

I read a report (from Shelter I think) that estimated that a third of uk households are only 1 monthly pay check away from homelessness and/ or poverty.

It’s an absolute fooking disgrace that things like this are allowed to happen in a developed nation like the uk.

If you voted Tory, you voted for this.
