There's a rat in my garden, what am I going to do?

This is the second day that my other half has reported seeing a 'rat' in the garden first thing on a morning. From the description I think it really is a small rat/s we are talking about.

I've looked at various traps online, but as with most reviews, for every five star review there's one saying its useless...leaving me unsure.

Advice very gratefully received
.

Can I be the first to advocate the use of a flame thrower?

More seriously make sure you remove any food source and they will fkk off without further ado. If you have a bird feeder put a catch tray underneath and clean it out daily or at least whenever you refill the feeder.

Squirt him with WD40 .
Won't kill him but he won't squeak any more .

That's the strange thing, Muttley. There is absolutely no food source out there, so I can't think why (after never having this problem before) Roland Rat and his mate turn up.

Very tempted by the flame thrower idea!

Don't suppose you have a link for that do you, r00fie1?
There`s a number on Amazon. I started with one and bought rock-bait and seed-bait. There are means of fixing them to the ground or fences and sticks / hedges in the garden. So long as they are fairly solid they are safe.
Mine had a "key" which enabled the top to be closed and entrances big enough [both ends] for rodents to get in. Its worth noting that the bait should be checked regularly to see if there is evidence of it being consumed or carried away. Sometimes you can see trails where rats have attempted to secrete the bait. It worked for me (y)

See my similar post from a few months ago 🐀
I ended up getting something similar to the picture Roofie posted from B and Q. It took a few days and two lots of poison to work, but the rat is gone as far as I can tell. It was coming to eat the bird food before.
