Michael Carrick talked about the growing bond between the players and the supporters at the moment as we look ahead to home games this week with tonight's match v Stoke City.
I popped a couple of quick questions to the Boro boss at the close of his pre match press conference yesterday at the Rockcliffe Park training ground.

Q: Reaching the last couple of months and last 10 games do you take a longer strategy now as well as game to game?

MC: Nah it is pretty much game to game at the moment. I think it is not overcrowded by any stretch. Yes, this week we have got a midweek game but ever since the World Cup break it hasn't been overcrowded at all. Games have been spaced out and we have a lot of training time between. It is game at a time, that is all that matters. That is all that matters and what we can control and the rest will take care of itself.

Q: At the end of the game at Swansea City the fans were all chanting, “Sheffield United, we are coming for you.” We are excited. Are the players also excited at being part of a chase?

MC: For me it is exciting seeing the boys playing well and scoring goals and winning games when we can. We are in football to achieve. We want to be as good as we can. The club wants to be as high as it can. The supporters want a team that they can get behind and support and enjoy and come and really buy into what they are doing and hopefully at the moment that is something that we are all feeling. That is regardless of where you are but there is a great energy around the place. The boys are in a good place. There is a great bond with the supporters. And I think all of us appreciate the situation that we are in at the moment and are trying to make the best of it.

We really see this bond at away games at the moment with players coming over to wave at fans and Chuba appreciating his chants etc.
This won't do us any harm in the run in.

It’s lovely
but
Not being funny or anything - it was the same for Wilder for a time

Lets enjoy the moment for what it is and hope this ends better

Not quite like this, there's something special brewing. This team seems proud to represent us, they leave it all on that pitch win, lose or draw. West Brom wasn't great, but they bloody tried and the fans recognised that.
There was games under Wilder where we were just utterly hideous!

It was around this time last year it started to go south. I can't see that ending the same way. MC seems a man of principles.

It was, though we're now further in to Carrick's reign than we were when the cracks starting appearing under Wilder.

20 league matches.

We lost to Barnsley on Wilder's 16th league match, and that was a horrific performance.

We are in a great space at the moment, the team and the fans. Long may it continue. Yes we will go through a dip at times but it's how we react to them what matters as a support group and as a team and so far we've reacted brilliantly.

Thinking the last few days , especially with some of the threads about potential promotion and buying these players and selling those players I wouldn't be gutted if we didn't go up this season, especially considering where we were at the start of the season.
A full pre season with Carrick and his coaching team and another successful transfer window and next season could well be a brilliant one not seen since the days of Europe should we start well.
