There’s a difference between discussion and criticising esp among Boro fans

Why can’t some on here see that, we are all Boro fans and as such when things aren’t going well on the field and off it then then it’s right that we discuss it.

It’s not slagging the team or the club off it’s merely debating and looking for a better way.
That definition rather depends on what is said though, surely?

Gash, crap stealing a living, heart the size of a pea.

Some of the abuse Southgate got on here was awful, ditto mogga.

100% I agree with you that helps no one but that’s negativity.

I’m talking about discussing elements that’s not working or can be improved like the club shop like the poor PR ( that renewal email etc) like our formations etc.

Yes I quite like a knowledgeable post on tactics. It something I don't know much about so quite like those threads.

Jedi - Just as a general point - I do think some posters struggle to find balance - I have read some stuff of late from posters that is riduclously negative/wrong. Its either trolling or they have great up and downs in their thinking based on how the team have been performing in the last 6 weeks etc.

I will give an example - someone posted the only younger players worth money in the transfer market are now Hackney and Jones - A month ago every Tom d*ck and Harry were saying Van den Berg was a fantastic find at 18/19 and was going to be a top Premier League player. I didn't reply because I had picked up the vibes, it was pointless.

I’ve found that when discussing any subject with people in their mid 30s or younger that they can take a difference in opinion as a personal attack.
I’m an old fart of 63 but do like to think I consider another’s position , step in to their shoes and question my own position but have found on quite a few occasions seen a younger person become upset if their point of view is challenged, even in the most gentle ,polite way.

Yeah, it's the hyperbole and the ludicrous flip flopping that grates a bit. If you searched back you would find threads about Dan Barlaser throughout the season with *a lot* of range of how good he is.

So what is the difference between discussion and criticising?

I don’t really know what point you’re trying to make 🤔

Everyone engages in their own way. Some also want to see others engage in a similar way to them, understandably so.
However, in my mind, Middlesbrough football club belongs to all of us. Everyone is free to discuss, criticise, moan, boo or cheer. It’s up to them.

To a degree the hyperbole about the positives or negatives are part and parcel of being a football fan.

A few wins and we are the greatest team in the land and every player is Prem quality, a few defeats and a nothing short of 20 new players in the summer will do.

As long as the negative viewpoints don't become personal and focus purely on football matters it's all part of the ride.

I think a lot of people say things in the heat of the moment, certainly after games. I tend to not post as much directly after a defeat when it be can be helped.

That said, a number of games this season I haven’t been overly negative after a defeat. We’ve had too many good performances where we’ve drawn or lost, and we’ve been scratching heads afterwards, wondering how we’ve lost. The last two home games have been difficult to endure though.

With regards to other posters. There are some names I only ever see after a defeat. You search their username and their posts and 95% of their contributions are negative. You aren’t educating or debating people with that mindset. Some people are more happy when wallowing in misery it would seem, and I tend not to waste my time replying to those types.

People just need to understand that it’s okay to disagree with others. As long as it doesn’t get personal, then it can all be healthy debate.

I went back and forth with a few people on the thread below. A lot of passionate and varying opinions on certain subjects. Despite differences in opinion, majority of it remained amicable and good friendly debate - that’s how it should be.

I always say, too many people are determined to convince people around to their way of thinking these days. Too much black and white, in a world where there are many grey areas.

agreed, however that right to speak out does come with a responsibility to be fair with it and not just pile on, blamestorm, create conspiracies and over negatively hypothesis, leading to a spread of malaise

I would add, have some balance - if all the points are negative or positive for that matter, the poster starts to lose creditability and it sounds like a politicians rant.

The point that a few of us were expressing our opinion on the club shop and the poor PR coming from the club over the ST renewals and some on here instantly dismissed and hit back at us as we were bashing the club.

But as others on this is thread have shown we do need to debate what isn’t working and not working in and outside the club as only by doing so will move forward and improve it.
