No football for months then its suddenly all back into full swing:

Summary of Last Nights Games:

* 26 year old Jake Beesley scored two first half goals for Blackpool to see off Derby County at Pride Park. Derby Telegraph politely described the Rams overall performance as "awful"!!!

* Portsmouth fans will be happy to see their rivals Southampton, beaten away at Gillingham. The journey back from Forest Green for Pompey fans, must have seemed sweeter after beating them 3-1.

* The M62 Westbound must have been a happy trip for Donny Rovers fans after beating Hull. A brace by 24 year old George Miller put the tie to bed.

* After having seven put past them at Barnsley, on the opening day of the season, Port Vale made amends at Vale Park with a 3-2 victory over Fleetwood.

* The Posh did their usual [never easy] - going through on penalties after a tough draw at Full Time against Swindon.

* Elsewhere: an away own goal saw Stoke go on to beat West Brom.

Mansfield recorded an emphatic win at home to Grimsby.
Notts were played off the park by Lincoln and Sutton United have already scored eight goals in their first two games - coming out winners against Cambridge United.

* Finally: could it be the end for Tony Mowbray?

It appears there is trouble brewing at the little fishing village - with reports of deckchairs being tossed around the boardroom. Defeat to Crewe on penalties has precipitated the usual outpouring of grief and finger-wagging from their "fans". Well done Crewe. (y)

* Wimbledon wont allow Coventry an easy ride. This could be a banana skin waiting to happen.
The Dons have struggled over recent seasons, but have that robustness and determination, which is their hall mark.

* Oxford United will be relishing the challenge against Bristol City. Nigel Pearson`s job wont be made easier, despite the "U" loss to Cambridge United on the opening day of the season. New signing, Ruben Rodgrigues, who joined Oxford from Notts in the close season, will expect to be in the starting line up.

* Elsewhere: Cardiff are in rebuild mode after scraping the relegation trapdoor last season. Despite that, they gave Leeds a shock on Sunday as they took a convincing lead at Elland Road. They were unlucky not to have come away with all three points.

* Ipswich made an excellent start back in the Championship with a superb win at the Stadium of Light over Sunderland! The "Tractor Boys" have now extended their run of unbeaten games to twenty. With our Josh coburn no longer in the mix with Bristol Rovers, they are likely to snuff out "The Gas" tonight.

* Meanwhile, the Dirty Whites are hoping Big Farke can steer them back into the Premier League, since Fat Sam failed to stop the inevitable at the end of last season. His record of getting Norwich promoted [twice] sounds reasonably impressive, but only if they fancy becoming a yo-yo club. The last time Leeds met Shrewsbury Town was twelve years ago - in the League Cup! 1225 Shrews fans have made the trip tonight - so lets hope its worth it.

Brewers V Foxes

On paper, perhaps not one of the most exciting of prospects. But Burton and Leicester have met six times - three times in the FA Cup and now Three in the League Cup. Foxes have won four out of the five played so far - the last time being October 2019 when City won 3-1, with goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Youri Tielmans and James Maddison. The bench that night included Harvey Barns, Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy.

Foxes biggest humiliation was a 4-2 reverse in August 2012, at the King Power, with Burton being 4-1 up by the 68th minute. Marko Futacs scored a late consolation, but the majority of the 8,560 "crowd" trudged home in shock after victory for the League Two side.

Only 24 miles separates Leicester from Burton - the same as Leicester to Coventry. The difference being that Burton`s biggest rivals are the ones in EFL League One [Third Division] - Derby County. Although Burton is in Staffordshire, its nearest County rivals are Stoke City. Derby is less than ten minutes on the train or a clunck down the A38. Tonight is predictably a sell - out.

0-1 up

Taylor Perry - goal scorer, was on loan to Cheltenham town last season and signed for the Shrews after a trial.

The Lester game has been dull. Wonder how many of their players will be off before the window closes?
