Welcome.
Today is an important match for both Managers. QPR have struggled to attract new players through the door and have a relatively older senior squad. We, on the other hand, have signed twelve senior players in probably the busiest Riverside transfer window in a long time. But we both need points. QPR have managed three points out of 12. They narrowly lost 2-1 at Southampton last time out. Promotion hopefuls Ipswich beat them 1-0 at Loftus Road, but Watford hammered the "R"s at Vicarage Road, sticking 4 past them before half time. Despite a late comeback, QPR`s win came in a 2-1 result at Cardiff. Gareth Ainsworth knows his job and will be looking to cement QPR`s place in the Championship this season. Last season they were shipping goals. On the other hand, our expectation is promotion and we need to start performing. Carrick is well aware of the situation and said so on Thursday at his Media Conference:

Results, of course we need to improve, but [I`ve] seen enough of the good signs to feel that the boys have deserved more from the games…...but you can only say that for so long. But you`ve got to make it happen and we did that on Tuesday. There were a lot of good signs, in a tough situation. To be a goal down against….a really good team….the boys stuck at it, came through strong and showed really good character. That was a real positive from the night as well.

Gareth Ainsworth moved to Rangers from Managing from the Chairboys. He`d managed to Wycombe into the Championship on a shoe-string, with players from lower and non-leagues When he landed the job at QPR, he found a team in a mess and attempted to play the "Wycombe Way" - but it didnt suit the players at his disposal. His side attempt to stifle the opposition in midfield and break on the counter [Sounds familiar]. Ainsworth is an experienced Manager and knows a few tricks. Today, we have to use our fitness and technical ability to break through that midfield "wall" and get the three points in the bag. Who is on the team sheet and who is on the bench will be interesting for us. With incomers still unpacking, others finding their way round and a number having been in a while - we wait in hopeful anticipation.

As mentioned elsewhere:

The hard work starts today.

QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth remained in positive mood as he looked ahead to Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at Middlesbrough.

Despite back-to-back defeats to Southampton and Ipswich, Rangers’ performances have been much improved in recent weeks.
As the R’s go in search of a second win of the campaign this weekend, Ainsworth told www.qpr.co.uk: “Everything but the goals is good at the moment.
“I think everyone can see the performances are good, we just need to stick the ball in the net more.
“What I’m hoping is that people can see the pendulum can swing so easily. If we’d taken one of those chances at Southampton, it’d have been a different game.
“We’ve been really good since Watford in terms of limiting the opposition to chances. We are creating plenty of chances but we need to start putting them away.
“I’m sure if we keep playing the way we have been we we’ll pick up plenty of points – I’m sure the next win is around the corner.”
Despite being one of the pre-season favourites for promotion, Middlesbrough have struggled for points thus far.
“The league position Middlesbrough are in has surprised everybody,” Ainsworth continued. “They’ve had a slow start but it’s very early days.

“Michael’s [Carrick] a great guy and a great manager.
“This is the strongest Championship for 10 years and a couple of wins can make a massive difference and propel you up the table.”
Discussing team news, Ainsworth disclosed that only Jimmy Dunne will definitely miss the trip to the Riverside Stadium.
He said: “Chris [Willock] and Lyndon [Dykes] are both out on the grass. I’m hoping at least one of them will be back in the squad for Saturday.
“Jimmy is champing at the bit to be back too and should hopefully be back shortly after the international break.
“They’re important players for us but we can’t rush them back, especially with such a small squad.”
The 2023 summer transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday evening.
“I think it will be a pretty quiet one for us,” Ainsworth added. “I’m not envisaging loads of business, but we’ll see.
“We’re happy with where we are and hopefully we can keep hold of our best players.
“If we can do anything for the right deal then we will, but it has to be right for QPR.
“Concentrating on what we do, especially around this time of year, is really important.
“I’m really looking forward to taking on Middlesbrough on Saturday; that’s my main focus.”

Cheers for that LRL (y)

First win of the season today. The team is starting to gel. 3-1 goals coming from lathe, hackney and rogers

Got to aim to score more than QPR today. Anything less and I can't see us winning, although a draw would be better than a defeat

I reckon they will sit deep and try to score on the break, could be a tricky game but hoping for a win

Assuming no Forss and Smith being available I’d go

Dieng
Smith Lenihan McNair Engles
McGree Howson O'Brien Silvera
Rodgers LatteLeth

Give Hackney a rest today
I would go with that line up with 2 up front gives coburn a better chance of game time.
