Its back to our "Bread an Butta"........

Seems like a season since we played Norwich off the park at Carrow Road.
Never mind the World Cup. Riley is back and looks fit and ready to hit the ground running.
Michael Carrick gave the lads had a week off straight after Norwich, but with the Hibs match and two more behind closed doors - against the Mackems and the Skunks - he s "upped the tempo" in training and hasnt given them an easy time in preparation.
Noticeable in recent weeks, has been the number of academy youngsters who are training with the first team squad.

Carrick has always had a strong belief in encouraging and nurturing youngsters - it goes right back to his experience as a lad in trials at Boro and at Wallsend Boys Club ["the Boyza"]. Through-out his career, he has always emphasised togetherness and calm approaching every game - from a cup match against Yeovil Town, to the Champions League.

Cant wait to get the season back under way and back in fast lane.
We`ve had the break, freshened up and are ready to go again.
Come on Boro!

Well done lads.......

A mention needs to be made to Jack Hannah, Pharrell Willis, Yacou Traore, Luke Woolston, Jack Robinson and Sam Collins - who were all in the squad at Hibs and given an opportunity to show what they could do under Carrick`s watchful eyes.

Sonny Finch, just turned 17 in August, scored a crackin goal at Hibs and its a real pleasure seeing that "winning feeling" seeping through the entire squad.

Here`s who we could have signed>>>>>>

1670609231249.png
Rob Edwards

Became Luton Manager during the break and heads up to our place for his first time as "Gaffa". Sacked after just 11 games in charge at Hatters deadly rivals Watford he`s taken over from Nathan Jones [who had "Hatters" running through his blood]. It will be interesting whether he keeps the same formation and players in the first team. It wont be easy.

Here`s an extract from the report of his first interview with BBC Three Counties Radio:

[Published December 8th 2022]

"It's been a strange time for everyone, unique, I think, to have this long a period off," Edwards said.

"I think some clubs will respond really well and others will maybe find it a little bit more difficult, so I'm hoping we respond in a really good way with performances, and hopefully results as well."

"This is not a surprise because I could see it about them when I watched the previous games and when I spoke to Nathan and when I spoke to other people, but the honesty, the intensity they train with has been brilliant," he told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"It's really refreshing to work with this group. Every day they put a smile on your face and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously now it becomes more important because we get down to the games, that's what we do all the training for and I'm looking forward to it."

He was, though, out of work for less than two months as Luton chose him to take the team forward following Jones' departure to Southampton.

They reached the play-offs under Jones last season and Edwards has no plans to "completely rip things up" and overhaul their playing style.

"It's a case of continuing to do the things that we do well - but there are a few key things that we've really gone after and really focused on (in training) and we'll hopefully see elements of that on Saturday," he said.

"It's been good to have a couple of weeks to really get to know the players as individuals, and for them to understand what we're about, and that we're not going to be making loads and loads of changes really quickly.

"Of course we want to evolve and build and grow and get better, but it's small steps at a time and (about) recognising that we are a good team. The lads have shown that over a long period of time in this league."

He continued: "In our job, you have to be a good sales person if there is anything you do want to tweak or change, we have to be able to sell that and we try to engage with them as well, get them to ask questions, because they're an intelligent group and we want their feedback as well."

Luton Support Confident As Team Heads To Middlesbrough

Mad Hatter 11:35 09/12/22

And so it came to pass that after what seemed to be an eternity, EFL Championship football returns this weekend.

For Luton Town FC it means a long trek north to the wilds of Middlesbrough, for what will be Rob Edwards first game in charge since taking over the managerial helm from Nathan Jones.

While Edwards team selection may prove to be interesting, I can’t help feeling that, after the break, the result is far more important.
The Hatters may lay in 11th place in the table, but they are only a single point off a play-off place.

Middlesbrough, now under the stewardship of Michael Carrick, the former Manchester United midfielder, are on a good run of form and will prove to be a stern test for Luton.

Perhaps that is why, when it comes to the Sky Sports resident expert, David Prutton, a home win is being touted.

But the Hatters support are showing more optimism with, in our regular poll, 42% are predicting a Luton win and a further 39% believing it will end in a draw, as for the remaining 19%, they reckon it could be a long drive home on the back of a Luton defeat.

Me, I’d be delighted with a win, but I’d settle for a draw, personally, I’m just delighted that EFL Championship football is back!

Bristol Rovers coach makes Josh Coburn prediction as Middlesbrough striker shines for the Gas

Josh Coburn has been hugely impressive in his loan stint with Bristol Rovers and Andy Mangan believes the best is yet to come from the Middlesbrough prospect

[He`s ours Joey- your not keeping him]!

Josh Coburn has been building quite the reputation for himself at Bristol Rovers, but first-team coach Andy Mangan believes the best is yet to come in the blue and white quarters from the Middlesbrough loanee.

Deadline day signing Coburn was made to wait until October to make his Gas debut, but since then he has notched five goals and an assist in just nine League One appearances, forming a menacing partnership with Rovers' top scorer Aaron Collins.

The numbers are impressive, but what has been so impressive about the striker – who celebrated his 20th birthday on Tuesday – is how refined his all-around game is at such a young age. He has natural size, speed and strength, but his instincts in the penalty area are also first-class and, at League One level at least, he appears the complete package.

But Mangan, a striker himself in his playing days, believes Gasheads have not yet seen the best of the Middlesbrough prospect, who is on a season-long loan in BS7.
1670612888119.png
"Josh is a great player," Mangan said. "He is far better than me, so I just admire him and try to work with him every day.

"Josh is here to learn a different side of the game that he’s not been exposed to before. He is playing every week, he’s having to get on with a new set of players, he’s having to get on with a new set of players, he’s having to play a new style of football than he’s used to, and he is doing fantastically.
1670612924090.png
"There is still so much more to come from Josh. We haven’t seen the best of him yet.

"He’s still getting fit because he was injured for a period of time at the start of the season, so Josh will get better and better and better.

"The likes of Aaron Collins have been great also with Josh. If we play three up front with Harry Anderson or Antony Evans or Scotty (Sinclair) or Ryan Loft or John Marquis, we’ve got great competition for places.

"Josh has done great and no doubt he will do even better as the season goes on."

Two matches against Luton that will be forever significant in Boro history

1973-74 winning promotion at Kenilworth Rd with a typical clinical 1-0 win by Big Jacks machine like team.

May 1995 and that final game at Ayresome Park and John Hendrie’s winner putting us on course for promotion.
