It was a "disappointing" result against Rotherham, but that has gone, and we need to get back to the main objective - winning games and climbing that table. We played well enough to leave Rotherham with the three points, but we desperately need to finish off our chances and make the best of what we can. So far, our injury-diminished squad has coped well with challenges it faces every week. Hopefully, there maybe some daylight emerging from those who have been out for months, to help us get back to winning ways. As Carrick has pointed out, we have goals in us from different areas, and we need to get back confidence quickly. There is no sympathy to be had in this league, and at the end of the day it's dog-eat-dog.

As much as we need the three points to keep within close distance to the play-offs, Darren Moore's Terriers need to increase the gap between them and the bottom three in the table. Huddersfield beat Blackburn Rovers 3-0 last time out. It's no consolation to point out that we have now lost more games this season than we have won, although we remain on the same number of points per game as we did this time last season: 33 points from 24 games.

[We`de won three on the trot before Rotherham. It's not the end of the world or the end of the chase for the playoff spots. Its unfortunate, but we move on].

No point crying over spilt milk or picking over the bones of what might have been. No time for the blame game or picking on individual players. It's a team game, and the team must provide the answers and results. Michael Carrick and his staff have plans in place to refresh the team and get moving forwards. He will be no more satisfied with our current plight than we are. It's frustrating. It's annoying. It's disappointing. But football isn't about rationality or scientific answers. It's not a game of chess.

We've sold out another away game, and we will be in good voice. We need to sing our hearts out for the lads and grab the three points at Huddersfield.

We must do this.

Come On Boro!

[Edit]

After criticising his players for a lack of “appetite” during a recent five-game winless run (D3, L2), Huddersfield boss Darren Moore was feeling much more positive on Boxing Day, as his Terriers posted a huge 3-0 win against Blackburn.
1703789910854.jpegThat result left them five points clear of the drop zone ahead of the round, meaning that they will enter 2024 with their heads above water at the very least.

The home faithful may hope to round the year off in style, given Huddersfield has posted wins in the final game of each of the last four calendar years.

Playing against a Middlesbrough side that they remain unbeaten against in three of the last four home league H2Hs (W2, D1, L1) may be a boost in that regard, yet Moore himself has been on the losing side in all three of his personal H2Hs.

Boro travel here on the back of a 1-0 loss to Terriers’ relegation rivals Rotherham, although the scoreline in that game doesn’t paint an accurate picture of how proceedings played out with the visiting side having over 70% possession, over ten times the xG (1.25) and ten times as many goal attempts (20)! Despite that, a “baffled” Boro boss Michael Carrick had to settle for an abrupt end to his side’s three-game winning run.

Still just three points from the top-six, Middlesbrough can theoretically cut that gap with a win here. They are also used to ending the year with a bang in recent times, running out victorious in four of their last five year-ending league games (W4, L1).

But improving a porous away defence will be key in continuing that trend, as Middlesbrough have won just one of their last five away league games despite scoring at least twice in four (D1, L3).

Players to watch:

Delano Burgzorg hit his fourth and fifth goal contributions from his last seven appearances for Huddersfield (G4, A1) to cap off their Boxing Day victory, yet he has not scored in back-to-back appearances in England so far.

As for Boro, Sammy Silvera helped dump Huddersfield out of the League Cup with his first goal for the club back in August, while he also made goal contributions in two of his last four appearances (G1, A1).

[Boro kicked Huddersfield out of the Carabao Cup, way back on the 8th of August.]

Cheers roofie. Always like a little read of these to get me in the mood.
A bit short this intro. Busy. I can't understand why all the games have to be on Friday night? Some fans will be travelling through the early hours and get back in the middle of the night!

Hopefully, we can have a better result, although it was only our first defeat in four games - but it felt like a real letdown.

Any signs in the tea-leaves what we might do tomorrow?
I'll go 3-1 Boro.

Our Current Injury List:

Dates of possible return are estimates / not definite.
We have to admire Carrick and his staff for staying calm and managing through this extremely difficult scenario.
Lets hope some get back to fitness as soon as possible (y)

Think i'd be bringing Engel back for this one to give us a bit more solidarity. I'd drop Greenwood and try to give Riley a full game before we lose him to the Asia Cup. Coburn will probably start but i'd give young Kavanagh a chance seeing as he knows where the back of the net is for the u23s on a regular basis.

It was a tossup between VDB coming back into CB or Clarke keeping his place. Clarke hasn't really done anything to warrant being dropped. I think we need to keep Rogers at #10, one poor game shouldn't define him and he's better on the ball than Crooks. He shouldn't be a long term option though (and neither should Crooks be.)

1-3 win to Boro.

For me, it doesn't matter if we make the playoffs this year or not.
Just the players trying to play their best is enough. Win or lose is another matter.
But I believe If our players play their best will get good results in the end.
Keep fighting. I will help cheer you on in Thailand. And hope that one day Boro will come to Thailand. I will welcome you at the hotel.

I'm sure you are right.
We nearly got relegated, and Warnock did what he does best and saved us from that.
Wilder was a man who sacrificed his own credibility and gave us a taste of what might be.
Carrick is unique and a class above.
He's a Premiership Manager, who realized we needed a proper rebuild and a change of ethos from top to bottom. We had the Governance, but it was an empty shell. we dont really appreciate just what he's achieving behind the scenes, but will experience the benefits for years to come.(y)

Wouldn't be surprised if he plays the same team actually. Though I expect vdB, Engel and Crooks to come in for Clarke, Bangura and Rogers. Maybe Coburn for Silvera depending on his fitness.

Probably an unpopular opinion but Greenwood would be one of my first names on the teamsheet. Could easily have had a hat trick on Tuesday.

Apologies in advance as well - I've been to 5 away league games in 2023 and we lost them all. I'm going tonight.
