Its that time again>>>>>>>>>

Its only 18 days since our previous Manager was given the boot, whence Leo and the Boys took charge of the lads in the dressing room.
Given the circumstances and the uncertainty within the club - they have done a very good job [So far]. We need to give Mark Tinkler, Gary Liddle, Leo and Lee Catermole credit for stepping up to a difficult task: they have reignited the "fighting spirit" amongst the players, which has been so desperately needed. Its not been pretty and the complete melt-down v Millwall showed how much work still needs to be done. Victory over Birmingham has proven just how significant those three points were - even though it showed the fragility of this side. Blackburn was frustrating and we could - and should - at least grabbed a point. Blackburn are showing how good a side they are: currently joint top of the table on 27 points, alongside QPR who are just ahead on goal difference.

Hard to believe that its taken 15 games to achieve our first away win of the season!
It was an excellent win, but with four different scorers and four very different goals - a different approach.
Who knows - it might [just might] be that we`ve begun to shake off that lack of confidence and the memory of the previous Managers failings.

* Isaiah Jones proved he could be in the right place at the right time - in the centre of the ten yard box, perfectly poised to take Watmore`s pass. We`ve often seen Jones flying down the right wing and crossing into the box, but its great to see him in the thick of it. Its clear he has a lot more to give - and its not too long since his anonymous playing days in South London!
B1.jpg
* Duncan Watmore never fails to provide inspiration and leadership - by his actions rather than just words! His goal looked a total uncertainty until he ripped up the Latics defence and place the ball into the far right hand corner. He never gave up. He pushed on and on - just like we know he can. He was no "big money" signing - he was brought back in from the cold by Neil Warnock [who deserves that credit] - he remains a key player and proved more than his worth on Wednesday.
B6.jpg
* Haydn Hackney - what a shot from our young Redcar academy graduate! No fear - just a rocket towards goal past their stranded keeper. He shows just what we can achieve by giving the young lads their chance. We have a wealth of talent at our club and Hackney proved that. Given the chance - our young lads can step up to the plate. Here`s to more opportunities for our young lads in the first team this season.
1666370412872.png
* Chuba Akpom - what can we say (?). Out in the cold - ready to be palmed off to the next club that came along - has proven pivotal so far this season - shown by his converted "cool-as-a-cucumber" penalty past Wigan`s stranded keeper. With a shot accuracy and goal conversion rate above the rest - hes proving hes a fighter, not a quitter! [where have I heard that phrase recently?].

* The change in formation and leaving players on the bench - who, up until now have more or less been guaranteed a starting role - proves that we can take risks and achieve positive results. Many of our players have played roles in different formations and systems. Its not alien that we change the way we approach games - to attack the oppositions weaknesses and play to our strengths. We know its the first away win and that the squad is still brittle at times. But we must stop beating ourselves up [as Boro fans we always do] - and take positives from an excellent 4-1 away win. We did`nt collapse - in spite of the early set back. It was a brilliant comeback in front of the travelling Red Army(y)

Whenever the reigns are handed over to the new Manager - they will have had time enough to look at the strengths and merits of the squad - as well as areas which need improvement and strengthening. Tomorrow is another day - we must`nt dwell on the past - only to learn the lessons that we can win when we put our minds to it.

Here`s to three more valuable points in our climb up the Championship - against bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield: but that`s their problem! Not ours!

Up The Mighty Boro!

Huddersfield - Players to Watch Out For:

1666373698693.png

Jordan Rhodes - always a danger - especially in the box.

1666373747307.png
Danny Ward - underperforming this season, but can be a good provider of assists as well as goals.

1666373922170.png
Faustino Anjorin - has only played 9 games this season, but has a crackin shot in him. Not to be left unmarked!

1666374011767.png
Tom Lees - at 31 is one of the senior players. Originally from Birmingham, he plays at Centre Back. Began his career with the "dirty whites" and joined the terriers in 2021 after 7 years at Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to my Huds mate the other day, he's telling me they are in a total mess saying that their new manager is basically a Scottish Bully and has lost the dressing room after 4 games. Him and Jonny hogg came to blows after he sounded out a couple of players in public. Manager will not even go into the dressing room at half time. Probably go for us in the first 10-15 mins pinging the ball across the box BUT when we score their heads will go down and be there for the taking.

Huddersfield Head Coach - Mark Fotheringham - Previews The Boro

1666374352045.png

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Mark Fotheringham discussed the fitness of his squad and our upcoming trip to Middlesbrough in his latest press conference.

Asked about any changes to player availability since the Preston North End defeat, Fotheringham said:

“It’s just the same injury news. Pat Jones has been out for a while, and I’ve only trained with Hoggy once. Medics have been working really hard. Jon Russell has been working really hard.

“Hoggy has a calf issue, he’s been helping me get to know the players and giving me pointers – which is what a captain does.

“Tino will be back soon after illness, it’s hard for me because I’ve not worked with these players before and it’s hard because these are starters. Hoggy is my captain and I’m looking forward to having him back, he works like me. We’re going to have a good training camp as well over the World Cup break.”

Opening up about the work being done at the Millers Oils High Performance Complex, our Head Coach gave some detail on what the focus in training has been on.

“We’re working really hard with what we can improve and do differently. Working on the timing of the delivery and the run on the ball, that’s all the work we can do on the training ground. My staff are recovering the players really well with the volume of games.

“The opportunities in the box, you can tell we’re really dangerous, we just need to work on the final shot and the final pass. We want to start climbing the table.”

“I tell the players to not focus on the outside pressure and to focus on what we’re doing on the inside and in training.

“There’s no excuses here at the club, our players have a great environment to develop themselves and improve their game.

“We’re just a team trying to find consistency”

Finally, ending the press conference by previewing the game to come against Middlesbrough, Mark insisted that his focus was on his own side, whilst remaining complementary of our next opposition.

“Middlesbrough are a good side and they have a lot of quality, but as I say we just have to focus on ourselves. We need to do something fast to get off the bottom of the table.

“if we can get back to back wins then we’re in a promising position in the table. I am going to make sure we fight to get out of this position.

“From the Hull game, you go from hero to zero. I try to take the emotion out of it and focus on the facts of the game. I think we are capable to get ourselves out of the position we are in. I understand that the fans are disappointed with the results of the game, but we are going to fight our way out of where we are.

“When the injured guys come back and the players I haven’t worked with, it’s going to make the group a lot more competitive.

“I want my players to be aggressive on and off the ball, to show the fans how much they want it.

“We did so many good things against Preston as well, it was mainly just the final pass – which is what we’re working on. The lads showed great courage and kept pushing and pushing. There is no lack of confidence.”

But then again this is Boro.

Boro v Huddersfield Preview:

It was elation for Middlesbrough last time out as they recorded their first away victory of the season at the seventh attempt, a resounding 4-1 win from behind at Wigan. Beloved coach Leo Percovich has a split record across his interim tenure ahead of his final game (W2, L2), though manager in waiting Michael Carrick will have a huge job on his hands if he is to lift Boro from the bottom half to their desired place amongst the top six.
1666375850674.png
Hopes are high that Boro can keep the positive momentum alive against Huddersfield Town, as even though Middlesbrough lost the most recent H2H, they haven't lost consecutive meetings with the Yorkshire side since 1966! In order to avoid such a fate, Middlesbrough must improve upon their run of just one win from their last four home league games (D1, L2) after disappointingly losing 2-1 to Blackburn last time out here.
1666376012596.png
In stark contrast, Huddersfield fans’ belief in new boss Mark Fotheringham seems to be waning after just five games (W1, D1, L3). The tough-talking Scot has already resorted to publicly calling out his players, forgetting the name of Yuta Nakayama and instead referring to him as “my Japanese left-sided centre back”, something that perhaps only served to reduce his stock amongst the fanbase.

Despite that, rock-bottom Huddersfield will be looking to come together and win an away league game for the first time this season (D1, L5), although that still wouldn’t be enough for them to climb out of the relegation zone. Perhaps typical of Terriers, Huddersfield were left chasing after conceding the opener in five of their six away league games, yet one positive is that only one of the six hosting sides could stop them from scoring at least once.

Players to watch: A goal and assist from Duncan Watmore within ten minutes on either side of half-time against Wigan inspired Boro’s first comeback victory since February (2-1 vs WBA). As for Huddersfield, Jordan Rhodes is looking to become the first former Middlesbrough player to score against them this season after contributing to both goals in a 2-0 win here last season (G1, A1).

Hot stat: Huddersfield have won just three of the last 20 H2Hs, and only one of those was away from home (D3, L14).

Boro fans may find it interesting to see how our Huddersfield cousins view their trip to the North East.
Some of their posts I cant post up on here, but it seems fans are generally unhappy, not just with their team`s performance, but particularly with Head Coach Mark Fotheringham. Here is a selection:

⚽"The formations and management are poor to shambolic at the moment and while the lads need to take responsibility, they really need support. Getting behind Hoggy whatever is going on would make a clear statement to the management they either back the players, coach them or ______ ___!"

⚽"I've given up on us getting another point away from home.
It's a complete and utter ____ show from top to bottom."

⚽"Can’t afford to lose this game, but I’d be very surprised if we got anything. You’d imagine Boro will be up for it with a new gaffer in charge and off the back of a 4-1 win. Hoping for 1-1 but I think Boro will stroll to a comfortable 2-0 win."

⚽"A 2-0 defeat is at the upper end of my expectations. I reckon 4-0. It's like when coach loads of us went up midweek and we lost 5-1. Only this time we'll get hammered and they won't have Juninho, Ravanelli and Emerson playing for them."

⚽"Boro will tonk us on Saturday unfortunately , all will be out to impress Carrick (who we should have gone for)"

⚽"Best tactic - for me - is to play experienced full backs down the flanks to stop their wing backs dominating with energetic support in front."

Great content.... I love a good matchday thread. You know its Saturday 👌

I watched the Boro breakdown podcast. They had the Huddersfield podcaster on.

He said 'we are comfortably the worst team in the division'. That doesn't fill me with any confidence😂.

I suggest we actually 'start' from the first whilstle. Unlike Cardiff and Blackburn.

Leo spoke [Friday] briefly, about the Huddersfield encounter today [Saturday] . He was his usual pragmatic self - emphasising the importance of the away win at Wigan, but indicating he has no issues "mixing up the squad" in order to face today`s opposition.

"In the championship their is no bottom or top place": any team can beat any team. We will "check the players" mentally and physically - we will then make the decision for [Saturday`s] line up.

Its important to work hard - "even against Blackburn [the fans]....werent leaving the stadium". Its clear that Leo places huge importance on the role we can play on lifting the team.

Looking forward to today. Be interesting to see who he brings in for Crooks. Expecting he will bring in Mcnair, sadly but you never know

Think today huddersfield will come out scrapping. Think a tight game with 1st goal winning it. Obviously im going for us to score first with us being at home and should create more chances to get that goal.
