Its that time again>>>>>>>>>
Its only 18 days since our previous Manager was given the boot, whence Leo and the Boys took charge of the lads in the dressing room.
Given the circumstances and the uncertainty within the club - they have done a very good job [So far]. We need to give Mark Tinkler, Gary Liddle, Leo and Lee Catermole credit for stepping up to a difficult task: they have reignited the "fighting spirit" amongst the players, which has been so desperately needed. Its not been pretty and the complete melt-down v Millwall showed how much work still needs to be done. Victory over Birmingham has proven just how significant those three points were - even though it showed the fragility of this side. Blackburn was frustrating and we could - and should - at least grabbed a point. Blackburn are showing how good a side they are: currently joint top of the table on 27 points, alongside QPR who are just ahead on goal difference.
Hard to believe that its taken 15 games to achieve our first away win of the season!
It was an excellent win, but with four different scorers and four very different goals - a different approach.
Who knows - it might [just might] be that we`ve begun to shake off that lack of confidence and the memory of the previous Managers failings.
* Isaiah Jones proved he could be in the right place at the right time - in the centre of the ten yard box, perfectly poised to take Watmore`s pass. We`ve often seen Jones flying down the right wing and crossing into the box, but its great to see him in the thick of it. Its clear he has a lot more to give - and its not too long since his anonymous playing days in South London!
* Duncan Watmore never fails to provide inspiration and leadership - by his actions rather than just words! His goal looked a total uncertainty until he ripped up the Latics defence and place the ball into the far right hand corner. He never gave up. He pushed on and on - just like we know he can. He was no "big money" signing - he was brought back in from the cold by Neil Warnock [who deserves that credit] - he remains a key player and proved more than his worth on Wednesday.
* Haydn Hackney - what a shot from our young Redcar academy graduate! No fear - just a rocket towards goal past their stranded keeper. He shows just what we can achieve by giving the young lads their chance. We have a wealth of talent at our club and Hackney proved that. Given the chance - our young lads can step up to the plate. Here`s to more opportunities for our young lads in the first team this season.
* Chuba Akpom - what can we say (?). Out in the cold - ready to be palmed off to the next club that came along - has proven pivotal so far this season - shown by his converted "cool-as-a-cucumber" penalty past Wigan`s stranded keeper. With a shot accuracy and goal conversion rate above the rest - hes proving hes a fighter, not a quitter! [where have I heard that phrase recently?].

* The change in formation and leaving players on the bench - who, up until now have more or less been guaranteed a starting role - proves that we can take risks and achieve positive results. Many of our players have played roles in different formations and systems. Its not alien that we change the way we approach games - to attack the oppositions weaknesses and play to our strengths. We know its the first away win and that the squad is still brittle at times. But we must stop beating ourselves up [as Boro fans we always do] - and take positives from an excellent 4-1 away win. We did`nt collapse - in spite of the early set back. It was a brilliant comeback in front of the travelling Red Army
Whenever the reigns are handed over to the new Manager - they will have had time enough to look at the strengths and merits of the squad - as well as areas which need improvement and strengthening. Tomorrow is another day - we must`nt dwell on the past - only to learn the lessons that we can win when we put our minds to it.
Here`s to three more valuable points in our climb up the Championship - against bottom-of-the-table Huddersfield: but that`s their problem! Not ours!
Up The Mighty Boro!
