* The Unofficial “Official” Boro v Bristol City [Feb / 24] Match-Day Thread *

We were **** poor today, I've little optimism at the best of times, it's completely gone after today.
I knew when I saw the team sheet we were destined to lose.

Fair point. I don't know anyone who would pick Engel over Thomas or leave Dieng and McGree out.

Man's looking more like a
buffoon with each passing game.

And I won't confuse them 'shutting up shop' with a Boro resurgence either.
Engel is so hit or miss. Feels like a gamble every time; haven't seen enough of Thomas to really weigh in on his ability though.

I think Glover has been great for the most part. Can't ask much more of a second keeper. Wonder if Dieng being back rattled him because today he was very poor.

Riley should be a nailed on first team player. I can only hope there's a good reason that he wasn't started. Maybe easing him back in a bit but at MINIMUM, when 2 goals down he should have came on at half time.

Really disappointed after that. We will need to go on a run now to keep in touch with 6th or that actually will have been it.

We were dreadful in the first half trying to force everything in the middle. No width at all.

For all the Engel hate, the ball comes out to him and what are his options. Azaz is so far inside he has to play a defense splitting pass to find anybody.

Carrick needs to stop making a simple game complicated.

Yeah I’ve stated he doesn’t look like he has a turn of pace, & looks knackered a lot of the time. To me he’s struggling to adap
I don’t think he’s good enough to be a starter in a team with any ambition of getting out of this league. He has his moments but there is no consistency and ultimately he has cost us a lot of goals this season.

Bristol City, this happens just about every season since we came down under Southgate. We've beat them twice at home since. Even the promotion season they won up here and we were no doubt written off on here.

Just back, thoughts

First half
- Barlaser was awful
- Hackney was awful
- O'Brien was awful
- Carick got the formation all wrong
- Did not like that Carrick sat down when the second went in, should have been in his area taking the boos with his team

Second
- Better generally, good to see McGree
- Not getting a striker in the transfer window was fatal
- No chance of playoffs. It may be mathematically possible but we would require an enormous turn around in form and to have a striker

Good thing with football though is that there is always next season to look forward to

Oh an one more - we really really missed Howson, despite him havbing errors in him he runs the game when playing and when not we really miss him
