The transfer window of unknown players

its going to be like that in this league. I hadnt heard of Aaron Ramsey until he signed and look what he brought. The club seem to be moving in the right direction and i trust the recruitment team a lot more than i did a few years ago. I would love a big name but where is the money coming from? All our big fee players have been flops in recent years. It would be nice to get a couple of older heads in for experience but who doesnt love an unknown Dutch 18 year old CB?!

I know it's not the same, but how many of us had heard of Emerson, Juninho, Hamilton Rickard? Love that we are going left field again, rather than just looking to sign Billy Sharp again.

I'm going to be honest here(and a little embarrassing confession) when the club announced we had signed Aaron Ramsey on loan I thought they meant the Welsh international player and thought he was a bit old, but would be ok for a short term loan(I also thought the Welsh Aaron Ramsey was a couple of years older than he actually is, he seems to of been around forever)😊🫣😂

As I have said on another thread it does worry me slightly that we don't need seem to be looking at any players with a decent amount of experience. We all know where the glaring holes in our squad are and I went into this summer hoping and thinking we would be replacing Archer, for example, with a player of similar quality and experience. If promotion is the aim, which it has to be, I'm not convinced filling your squad with young players with no first team or English football experience is the way to go. I fully trust the club to get it right by the time the window closes though.

I think we’re filling out the squad with young Moneyball punts for now but think the focus will be firmly on adding the loanees back again from last season. That takes longer, because the PL clubs are operating in a crazy market with a later start and you don’t know if the likes of Archer, Ramsey, Giles will be available for loan or transfer until much later in the window.

I’m sure we’d take all three back tomorrow but the massive money deals in the Premier League take longer to do, so we have to wait for that.

I dare say we still need:
Goalkeeper
Left Back
Number Nine
Defensive Mid
Number 10 back up

We have 5 loan spots still available..

Don’t get me wrong.. I’d LOVE IT if we moneyballed the whole window!!

We are in a good place.. strong squad.. options.. great recruitment.

Tom Glover signed.. we might well moneyball the whole show yet!

If Bola is off.. we must have a left back lined up.. no one else but Ryan Giles has been linked.. £7.5m has been pulled from under the couch.. might be our big signing!

Defensive mid.. Jashari? Celtic leading the chase.. not the pill they used to be.

£1.5m for Max Bird seems like a good deal..

Loving the way we’re going with youth, and don’t mind them being unknowns. Think we need a bit of experience as well though.

I worry about us having too many young players on the pitch at the same time, especially if Howson isn’t playing every game. Some games you just need experience to drag you through, especially against physical teams.

I'm actually amazed how well placed we are.

I think we need a Left Back, Striker and if possible a Jonny Howson long term replacement and possibly a better option at right back

Those 3 NEEDS will be our big signings
