The top five cakes

I don't know what constitutes a cake, esp after visiting Bettys & seeing their 'cakes' so.. in no particular order..

Jamaican Ginger Cake - hot & with custard or vanilla ice cream
Buttermilk chocolate Swiss roll,
Mississippi mud pie,
Custard slice
Chocolate brownie cake ( I may have made this one up )

1)Dorset Apple Cake
2)Tarta de Santiago (It's cake, it's the Jaffa cake argument in reverse)
3)Carrot Cake - it's gotta be moist, with also lots of lemon zest or its a no deal.
4) Bakewell tart ( it's really Tarta de Santiago but with Jam)
5) Hot Torrijas ( they will put me in a early grave but they are lush)
No idea what a torrijas is , so I looked it up.

Thanks, I'll dig my plot now as they look delicious

They are excellent cold and may gain flavour after a day or two but my ' Mrs' cooks them usually for Easter and can tell you when they are hot and the honey has just been added they are irresistible.

It’s proven in a court of law that a Jaffa cake is in fact a cake and not a biscuit.

HMRC v McVities 1991

The company argued that their Jaffa Cakes were cakes because are more like cakes than biscuits because cakes harden when they go stale, and biscuits go soggy, a Jaffa Cake indeed goes hard and their case was proven to be successful. The judge ruled in favour of McVities and concluded that Jaffas were indeed cakes!

Battenburg is my favourite, and I'm almost afraid to type this but I'm also partial to carrot cake.
Girlfriend pointed out the pink bit is from crushed cochineal bugs, that put me off, you’re welcome.

The best I ever had was at an event adult the House of Commons, they different level and no bugs were harmed in the making of it.
