The tide is turning

I never wanted him at the club, for no other reason than his ranting on the sidelines.

He did begin to grow on me mainly due to his press confrences which were a breath of fresh air.

That has only gone so far, I would mark him 6/10 on where we finished, but 3/10 on quality of play.

Where I have gone back to disliking him is the last 7/8 games of the season, where he made all the right noises about given youth a chance, but other than for one enforced change he failed miserably. It would have been good for fans to see youngsters blooded (only a few at a time) for at least half a game and not 10 minutes.
On this 0/10.

I dunno if it is though. Even if we have an awful transfer window I'd trust him to get something out of what he has available more than I would most other managers we could realistically bring in. That doesn't mean I think he'd get us up, but I think we'll be as good or better than this season almost no matter what.
He didn’t succeed getting the best out of Akpom, Britt, Spence, Bettinelli to name a few - so I’m afraid he doesn’t get the best out of every player

No but he does get the best (or close to) out of squads, generally, I would say. At least more than most other managers we could attract.

And how many of those players did we actually buy?
Watmore has been a revelation, Morsy has come into his own now and made his position his own. He's been honest with what we are lacking and what we need.

Some don't like him calling out player's performances, so what if he's old school? If professional footballers can't take criticism then they should be working harder so they don't give an excuse to the gaffer to call them out.
The problem is spending the majority of our budget on a striker that’s no good, then making it pretty clear we don’t want him one season in, when the chances of us being able to sell him are almost zero. We are now stuck with the player who knows we don’t want him, and now probably doesn’t want to be here either. It’s hardly good management.

can you give me one reason we should keep Warnock after our performances this year? To me it feels like we’re just going to waste another season

Who do you replace him with?
Give them one season and sack them off too?

Gibson has a reputation of sticking by his managers and giving them time. Warnock had wanted to come here for years so why would you get rid of a manager who genuinely wants to be here for more than just the money? If you get rid of Warnock that leaves that reputation of Gibson in tatters. That makes it even harder to get a decent manager in.

If we don't make the playoffs next season then fair enough, Warnock will probably walk away.

We live in a world of instant gratification!

You want a new TV? you look online and 24 hours later its in your home & your watching it.....no going out and finding one that you like, no waiting for weeks for it to turn up!

You want your leg over? Get on Tinder, no effort needed, no getting dressed up and going out on the pull, no work required!

You get my point!

He’s ok, knows his way around this league and in patches had a poor squad playing effectively. Not sure he has another promotion in him, and even if he did I don’t think we will have a good enough squad by the start of next season.

I‘d like to see him as a competent caretaker while we are scoping out the next Klopp, but let’s face it Gibson isn’t either clever or well-advised enough to pull something like that off.

The real issue will be if he signs 10 new players, then the team struggles, and the crowd turn on him. Why would he stay? He doesn't need the job. He'll just quit and leave the club in the lurch with a team of underperforming players. Just thank him for what he's done, end his contract and bring in someone new now.

Don't ask me who. I have no idea but somebody in MFC must have a database of successful managers and assistants from all over the world.

It will be great shame if we don't show the appreciation he deserves for saving us last season. When fans are back, we should put aside our current worries and give him a rousing reception.

Then again he did say he likes to be booed.

I am happy with Warnock & co, so far. We were successfuly rescued last season and performed as expected this season.

Every season we as fans have hopes of exceeding expectations, most seasons it does not occur and its the same at nearly every club.

Money is getting more important in the Championship and we are no longer a rich club in the Championship, so top 6 is a big challenge.

Football is becoming more and more short-termist, perhaps society in general is.
For me, Warnock is the short termism. I'd prefer we were strategic. No one wants us to have a future of Warnocks football philosophy on the pitch, we want something a bit more modern and technical. Good players don't want to play for Warnock teams. For me, getting back on track with a football philosophy built around playing the game in an entertaining style, getting players in for that style, is important.

I don't want to spend the next 12 months getting athletes in, who can't string 4 passes together, fail to get promoted, then a new manager comes in and has a load of players that aren't very good technically and he has to continue with direct football.

Mostly seems to be people who didn't like him beforehand anyway deciding that results mean they can get away with the criticism now.

that goes both ways though to be fair, those who are big fans also confirm their beliefs when results go well and shout about it.

If we do get these 8/9 players in you can bet your bottom dollar some will be short-term, some will be frees and one or two will be season-long loans. I can't think of anyone, realistic, that we could sign that would be so desirable we'd need to give them a big wage for 4 years. If we didn't learn our lessons from Britt/Fletcher, Covid should put paid to that sort of deal regardless.

Yeh you'd hope so, but I wouldn't have expected us to spend 3 million on a striker last summer either, and look how that's played out.

Of course, the same thing happens with players.
One good game after twelve bad ones is enough for those who already liked the person, and vice versa.

I'm still pretty confident and up beat. The gaffer has won plenty of promotions and can operate on a small budget. You read some of the names thrown about and they would want a 50mil war chest.

How's big earning Chris Houghton done at Forest?

I think this squad has needed a 'reset' and we have now finally moved on all of monks big money signings. They have held the last 3 managers back due to not been able to move them on due to wages. We are now in theory free from those shackles.

So this Boro side will look absolutely transformed with 8-9 new signings. They may not be glamorous but I imagine the very least they will do is graft. We have had 2-3 simply going through the motions for 2 years knowing they won't get a new deal.

A new player will at least have a bit of fire in thier belly and try to impress.

Also looking forward to seeing a classic old school No9 target man. I love one whos capable of bullying and roughing up CBs👏

Watmore as been great. Like Morsy but it took a while to fit in. One of first names on team sheet now. We may not have bought the players in Jan but they were here. Neil brought them in. so has to take the flak when they don't come up to scratch.
Regarding your comment that people don't like him calling out players performances I tend to agree that players should be able to take criticism although many on here called out Woodgate for doing similar. Criticising players and recruitment. Something Neil did when he first came. He said he didn't need recruitment staff and hadn't had them in his last few jobs.

That said my only objection to him staying is if he only stays a years we have it all to do again next summer.
