The Shining

Brilliant film and book. Despite the differences. Agree that Doctor Sleep was disturbing but I did think it was quite good. And that lead baddie who wears the hat, something extremely sexy about her.

The Stephen King produced series was watchable but nothing on the movie.

The ending still puzzles me, that he is in the 'photo' - surely they would have seen the photo as they were locked in all winter
It’s all open to interpretation though isn’t it? The book doesn’t end that way.

Having said that, Dr Sleep sort of makes you feel like there is less to be interpreted.

Did anyone else know this film was shot in the UK? well except the 'exterior shots' of the hotel - but the maze and everything was filmed in Britain

Kubrick made most of his films in the UK. He lived here. Think after Dr Strangelove or Spartacus he left the US and wouldnt go Back. One little fact it doesn’t say All work and .... it actually reads A11 make of that what you will

It says all work and no play make jack a dull boy. That's what an l looks like on a typewriter. And the moon is not 237,000 miles from earth, the distance varies. Etc. Make of that what you will. 1604265477866.png

The text on the typewriter says A11 work...trust me. I used to hate kubrick films but really got into them few years back. Layered and dense. One other bit of trivia. Happy ending from original cut of blade runner had unused takes from the shining

It really doesn't. It's just part of the nonsense Kubrick faked the moon landings. Look at the script I posted. Look at the screenshot.

I haven’t said its got anything to do with the moon landings but thats quite clearly 1’s and not L’s man. Theres a scouse guy on you tube, hes a bit irritating bit his analysis of this and other kubrick films is pretty good. Cant remember what hes called. Im gonna have a look and post you a link because he did have an interesting take on the movie and honestly nothing to do with the moon landing. Side note, i do have an alternate take on the moon landings but none of the evidence ive found points to the shining

I saw it mate. Look like 1’s. But as i said i dont think the shining has anything to do with the moon landings. I know some have said and king himself didnt like Kubricks take on it but, kubrick was just using the story as a basis for whatever he was trying to say. On the surface you get pretty much the story of the book but theres so much more going on other than the surface narrative. Thats whats great about his films. Ots all in the images and shots and subtlety, thats why we and othets are still debating what that films actually about 40 years later. Eyes wide shut for example; ome of those films ive only ever watched in bits, never the whole way through. Watched it in one sit when it came on prime and first time i figured out nicole kodman was at the masked ball

Dont sit on the fence like. Disagree i dont really have strong feelings on his conclusions but interesting take on things. Kubrick just didnt do things for the sake of it.

I have no idea what it means but thats what its written as. Thing is youd do that on purpose or out of necessity. For example could be as simple as the L was broken so he used the 1 instead. Could be something more to it. However he definitely uses cryptic, psychological and subliminal themes in his films. Ghost faced/ bandaged soldier in full metal jacket is one that comes to mind. Check it out. Blink and you miss it type thing but its there

I saw a YouTube video (yeah i know) that pointed out all the themes / messages in The Shining and the 'fake' moon landings

Ive said several times i don’t think kubrick or the shining has anything to do with the moon landings. Not sure why you’re continuing that theme? Looks like 1’s not L’s. What it means, i don’t know but its one of hundreds of subliminal themes in the shining and other kubrick films. Don’t believe me; check out ghost face soldier in full metal jacket like i said. Another one in the shining, danny sees twins. But the hotel manager says they were sisters aged 8 and 10 doubt thats continuity error as the actors were twins. Theres loads more to see than just the surface narrative in kubrick films. Thats whats so great about them
