The Return of Johnson

I’m thinking it’s nailed on now.
Likely to be tons of support from USA to get the Tories re elected and they have a great model to gain the popular vote with a buffoon.

reasons to be optimistic
Our party system with Lib Dems et al
Around 2.5m of the wrinkly right will be dead by the next election
Around 1.5m newer voters will be on the electoral register
We’ve got another 4 and half years yet
Trump’s lifespan
They go to the polls again before us

Regarding the last one, not necessarily. History suggests that no government runs beyond 4 1/2 years unless it’s expecting to get creamed either way. Labour will be targeting a 2028 election at present I suspect, and before November.

He'll no doubt use Trump to keep himself in the limelight, I've heard a few political commentators raise the theory that Boris comes back about 12 months before the end of the current government, if he thinks he can win the next election Kemi is unlikely to set the Tory faithful alight, nevermind the wider electorate, so they'll be only too happy to have him back.

Anybody else thought the OP meant this guy:

I think politicians in his own party are wise to Johnson now, he's more than a bit of a risk.
As for the general public ? - Its mainly gammons and codgers / codgetta`s who knock one out to - Johnson, Farage, Laxative - lennon. They want their childhood to return like it was in the 60 70 80`s, They tend to be overly nostalgic, don't like the look of their town centre and people walking whilst black.
As I say to two of our football 10 gang, this isn't going to happen, the world has changed not only the country. I cant change their mind even if I shame them, and they wont have it any other way.
I really think they are at war with anything that opposes those era`s. If I mention there will no longer be the likes of d*ck Emery, Benny Hill etc, if I mention that the monarchy is slowly being eradicated the balloon goes up.

Its mad to think we all grew up together with the same thoughts and hopes for the future.

Spring elections are usually favoured. The last few being at awkward times changed some of that. I'd expect spring 2029 for the next GE unless Labour are super confident of retaining a majority by going earlier.

The next 4 years of chaos and bigotry in the US will not be a good ad for a right wing UK Government.

Also I noticed the stock market was up 1.35% in the UK this morning but once the markets realised what tariffs could do to your businesses all the gains were lost and the FTSE closed down on yesterday.

Johnson was a useful idiot and of course he still has his allies in the party, but not sure the current cabal running the tories would be too keen on him coming back.

He's not really right wing. He's not left wing either. He doesn't really stand for anything, other than himself. And as they found out last time, he's not easy to control. He might win them an election, but he's not a neo-liberal true believer and he doesn't like making unpopular decisions.

I'm more worried about Farage.

Some people on here have really got it in for the older generation. The ones who fought for workers rights, demonstrated against poll tax, went on strike for better, safer conditions, while these younger ones sit on their laptops and phones moaning about life. Remember, next time you have your 25 days paid holidays, who fought for them. Not all OAPs are blue rinsed Tories and actually changed things for the better. IMO.
And we got to see the best of times and the worst of times at the Boro.

The tories dumped Johnson for a reason.

Can't see him ever being on their front bench again.

Unless Johnson was parachuted in to a seat during a by-election, he's got no way of becoming Tory leader again whilst Trump is president, let alone get back in to government.

He has to be an MP before he can become Tory leader.

I suppose it's a scenario where they might convince an MP to stand down for him to parachute in, but there's a lot of hurdles to overcome for him to be in the position to get back.

Johnson isn’t coming back - he’s just visible at the mo because he’s got a book to sell.

Badenoch won’t want him coming in to steal her thunder.

And a large amount of them are quite happy to have those rights and aspirations removed from the kids and grandkids

The tories are not a changed party, they are still the nasty party. PMQ’s was a childish attempt to embarrass certain Labour ministers and harping on about Tweets about Trump is certainly not in the national interest.

Badenoch is forthright and direct but lacks enlightened vision, the press built her up as giving it to Starmer at PMQ’s, but I thought her talk of scripted answers and student politics were served delightfully and accurately right back at her. She was like a fresher trying to gain traction at the Oxford Union and looking like the naive novice she is.

I am sure she will upset many of her fellow tory MP’s over the next few months, especially the more moderate ones and in a few years they will see her kicked out sometime before the next election. Johnson and his chums will be schmoozing their wealthy landowning aristocratic friends, promising peerages and policies in return for another go at the job. He is seen as a winner and the membership love him, he will be back by 2028 at the latest.

I’m old, have demonstrated et al
The fact remains the vast majority of oldies are blue rinsed Tory’s (just look at the voting stats) - many with extreme views.

They voted, in their droves for the re election of their party despite everything over the last 14 years.

I’m really happy to fight against that nastiness, selfishness and bigotry.

Not sure he was seen as a winner when they kicked him out of no 10.
