Its that time again..........

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises this week was the club signing an extended contract with Hayden Coulson: a player we thought would be on his way, has now been hooked back into the fold. Its beginning to look like Michael Carrick and his coaching staff deserve the nickname of "Florence Nightingale" - rescuing lost souls who seem to be all at sea and nursing them back to full fitness. More later.
Carrick press.png
Michael Carrick was asked the usual questions at his recent Media Conference, but also about particular players, whether Boro could catch the Blades, the League Table.....the Premier League. It appears that Carrick is having to calm down the reporters with their note-books!

Cardiff is another challenge - the latest this season - and Carrick stressed "Its irrelevant where teams are or which league". "We respect them for the challenge they are going to bring...especially across their forward line". Look out for Callum Robinson and Callum O`Dowda - who have both been free goal-scoring and providing assists. In the Championship, "everyones fighting in the league, whether your down the bottom, you`re fighting to...get out of trouble. If you`re at the top, you`re fighting to try and get out the league. So everyones fighting for something". Often, reporters and us fans think of clubs fighting for survival at the wrong end of the table, but as Carrick pointed out - no club wants to stand still. Can Boro catch the Blades asked one reporter(?): Carrick smiled that smile which says [what a daft question], saying "I didnt know the table exists" ;@)). "The biggest game is Saturday in Cardiff".

Will the recent good form and the selection of Paddy McNair effect team selection and does his selections give out a "message" to the players?
"I dont have to give a message. The boys have been unbelievable. I`ve not had one issue, not any attitude, no one causing a fuss, no one disappearing. Disappointed 100% for sure [at not being on the team sheet]. They should be disappointed , but they are not showing it towards me, or the coaching staff, or certainly not to [other] players. I think that is a credit to every single one of them."

"All the boys are in a good place......[recently] it hasnt been a busy shedule at all. Everyone is fresh and raring to go". "We`ve obviously got an idea of how we want the team to look over the next three games,...but he have options".

Manager of the Month award Nomination? Is there a spring in the step around the place after last weeks success against Blackpool and Watford?
Guess what? "Its not about me. Its nice, but we have to think about the weekend".

"I`ve said it since I walked in here really: there`s been a real good energy and a spring in the step of everyone from the start. Winning games helps...but we are fully aware like, you`ve got to do the same thing all over again this weekend - to carry it [momentum] on".

Players:
Aaron Ramsey
is not far away to being included but Carrick refused to say he would definitely include him this weekend: "He will soon be back to his best". Matt Clarke is a little further off returning, but Carrick is very impressed by his attitude and determination to get back in the squad. He explained, its not easy for a player watching from the side-lines, especially when the team are "playing well". Darnell Fisher appears to have picked up a "niggle", but Carrick assured he was back in training. Rodrigo [Muiniz] should be back soon.
1676050078860.png
Asked about Isaiah Jones, Carrick commented that its easy to forget just how young some players are and how soon they have experienced huge "highs" and expected to carry that on..... "Hes been great". It appears Carrick and his staff are training Jones and helping him to adapt - be realistic, and bring out the best in him. Chuba? "I`m delighted. Not much more to say that I havent said before". He is bound to grab the headlines, but "its what he brings to the group" which matters most.

Haydn Coulson?
The reason he had signed a contract this week? The reporter who always answers his own questions first, before handing over to Michael Carrick: Is it because [Carrick] likes what he sees and wants him back in the building to have a closer look at him?

"Yes. Of course. I`ve not been fortunate enough to work with him....because he`s been away since I`ve been here. But he`s done well up there [Aberdeen]. I think its great experience playing a lot of football. A different situation, different circumstances, but some big games. Its part of the learning experience as a younger player and I think it sees you in good stead. So [we are] looking forward to getting him back and working with him and seeing how it goes pre-season". "Thats the plan because of that left-back position. Ryan [Giles] has been absolutely fantastic, but clearly there`s question marks [about] the long term".

Have there been any "conversations" about players for the future and what might be happening?
Carrick smiled that knowing smile again: "There`s conversations all the time. Its not just like we dont talk about things and all of a sudden dealing [with it] in the summer....its an ongoing thing." Its a case of constantly looking to improve and "nailing things down".

Fans?
Cardiff: "I hear we`ve got 1500 going down there, which is a long journey. It shows the level of support we`ve got. Its incredible. I`ve been so pleased with the support weve got in numbers, in volume and the noise! It definitely helps the boys. You can see the energy that they take from it. Hopefully [on Saturday] we can make the journey worthwhile".

Days Gone By | City vs. Middlesbrough

Saturday’s fixture between Cardiff City and Middlesbrough will be the 71st meeting between the two sides (66 times in the league, and 4 times in the FA Cup).

The Bluebirds and Boro have been pitting their wits against each other for over 100 years, and whilst there have been plenty of contests, these matches have often come in bursts.

The two teams met eight times between 1921 and 1928, but then didn’t cross paths again until 1952. In those first eight matchups, City went undefeated (winning six and drawing two), but when the sides were reunited in the early '50s, it was Boro who finally notched up their first victory.
The teams would routinely meet until the mid-1970s, before Middlesbrough won promotion to the top flight for the first time in 20 years, with City remaining in the second tier.

During their stint in the First Division, Boro won their only two international honours. They lifted the inaugural (and short-lived) Anglo-Scottish Cup in 1976 by beating Fulham in the Final, before winning the Kirin Cup in 1980.

Cardiff City vs. Middlesbrough

After a season in Division Three, the Bluebirds bounced back up at the first time of asking and resumed their rivalry with the North-East side.
There were four fixtures played in the 1980s, with both sides taking two wins each, before their fates once again diverged.
City suffered consecutive relegations and fell into Division Four for the first time in their history, whilst Middlesbrough, under the stewardship of Bernie Slaven, would return to Division One.

Both sides would have a few yo-yo seasons in the '90s; City featured in both the second and third tiers, Boro bounced between the Premier League and the second division, but still neither would meet in league action.
Instead, 1994 bought about a Third Round FA Cup tie. After a 2-2 draw at Ninian Park, the Bluebirds won the replay 2-1 at Ayresome Park. Goals from Phil Stant and Nathan Blake saw Eddie May’s side sail into the next round.

Cardiff City vs. Middlesbrough

As we headed into the new millennium, Boro had stabilised themselves as a successful Premier League side. They won the League Cup in 2004, beating Bolton Wanderers in the Final, before reaching the Final of the UEFA Cup in 2006, losing to Sevilla.

By that time, City had acclimatised to life in the Championship. Another FA Cup affair came in 2008, with City again coming out on top as they marched all the way to the Final. This time goals from Peter Whittingham and Roger Johnson did the damage in a memorable 2-0 win.

After an 11-year stay in the Premier League, Middlesbrough soon returned to the Championship and rekindled their league meetings with the Bluebirds. The two sides have since played in the top division, but both returned to the second tier after a single season of Premier League action.
Since City returned to the Championship in 2019/20, this fixture has been played seven times. The most recent tie came in September, with the Bluebirds running out 3-2 winners at the Riverside Stadium.

First half goals from Callum O’Dowda, Mark Harris and Perry Ng were enough to seal all three points.

City have won 34 times in the 70 meetings between the two. Sabri Lamouchi will be hoping to make it a 35th win on Saturday.

Sol Bamba - Message to Cardiff Fans and The Players

1676053430670.png

Sol pre-Middlesbrough | We need you more than ever

Sol Bamba, Sabri Lamouchi

First Team Coach and former City defender Sol Bamba spoke to Cardiff City TV ahead of our clash with Middlesbrough on Saturday.

"It's good to be back!" Sol began. "I'm feeling much better; I caught the flu unfortunately, so it knocked me out for a couple of weeks. But I'm much better now, and looking forward to the first home game.

"We were disappointed with the results, because the performances themselves were good. We were looking to build on that, and it was a good week of training this week.

"Where we are at the minute, we need everyone. The games are coming thick and fast, so we need everyone as fit as possible."

Dean Whitehead, Sabri Lamouchi, Sol Bamba

Sol looked ahead to tomorrow's match with a message to the City supporters, as his former side Boro visit the Welsh capital.
On our opponents, he said:

"Typical, isn't it! I don't think there could be any better start. The club that I absolutely love, I'll be assisting the manager in front of the wonderful fans that I love as well, against my former club.

"Unfortunately, when I left we had the pandemic, so I couldn't say a proper goodbye to the fans. I think I'll be emotional, I can't lie, but we've got a game to play and to win, so it's all about that.

"The gaffer has asked me a lot of questions about it, and I can't even explain, because you have to experience it! So we'll both be looking forward to it tomorrow."

Discussing the City faithful, Sol added:

"They've always been behind us all the time, home and away, but at this particular moment of time, we need them more than ever.

"I know they are going to back us up, there is no doubt about this. But, if I can put the message across, I think it's important for them to know we need them even more than before."

Cardiff haven’t won in the league since Sunderland away on November 5th (1-0)
In the 11 games since, they have conceded 12 goals, scoring 4 goals. When they have been beaten in those 11 games, it has never been by more than 1 goal.

“From where they started with Michael Carrick and where they are now, honestly it’s remarkable.
In my opinion they can actually catch second spot.
Even if they just make the play-offs it’ll be remarkable from where they started."

Of course we can finish second roofie. I'll be surprised if sheffield drop points tomorrow, but they will drop more than we do in the run in

Sol Bamba is rarely wrong, though he may be disappointed tomorrow.
What does your allergyrythms say for tomorrow?
3-0 Boro for me (y)

For whatever reason low scoring win to boro. I would expect us to get at least 2 goals and wouldn't be surprised by 1-3 win. We'll know whether my real stupidity is better than my algorithms artificial intelligence, at about 10 to 5

Absolutely adore big Sol! Wish him all the luck in the world after tomorrow!
But for tomorrow I hope he's extremely sad come 5pm!

Thanks again @r00fie1

Edgy today, they don`t get beat my many goals

We`ll need to be focused an not even have a thought for mid-week
I think that is true recently, not so much over the season. 11 goals v leeds in the fa cup too, though I would tend to ignore that as I don't know what sides were put out. You are right that they don't score many, probably the lowest in the division, but they concede plenty if you go back to before christmas.

I'll stick to my 1-3 prediction today goals for chubba mcgree and steffan gets a screamer from mid way inside our half when he see's their keeper of the line.
