Its that time again........
Michael Carrick.
"Its a pleasure to stand on the touch-line and watch the team at work.........celebrating wins like that with the supporters is priceless"
The QPR Media Conference was buzzing on Thursday. Carrick said "There`s no hiding what the situation is. we knew before the game, we know now and for the rest of the season. But its not something I think about an awful lot. I enjoyed last night for what it was; for the performance, for the challenge that the boys faced and came through. I was really proud of them for that." As usual, Carrick took no credit for the performance, but acknowledged the feel-good factor amongst supporters and the team: "I fully appreciate the situation we`re in at the moment and the feeling around the whole place and the support we`re getting". But its what happens next (?). "Its the only way I kind of know" said Carrick. Asked about his own career and whether that influences his approach, he repeated "I think experience is a wonderful thing". Good or bad. He highlighted his experience of relegation at West Ham and how that helped to develop him as a player.
QPR?
[It will be] "a dangerous game. They`ve had a tough run of results....they`ve got really good individuals, that can come alive at any time and hurt you." As for the lads being ready after the Blades: "Physically...from the game [Wednesday] night, we`l manage that and be ready, mentally - even more so. Be ready to do it all over again and start from scratch". He emphasised the importance of being focused on QPR and not letting "the victory drift" - "its about concentrating and living for the moment". For Michael Carrick the priority is keeping our eye on the ball and feet on the ground.
Most rewarding part of the job [so far]?
"Its a pleasure to stand on the touch-line and watch the team at work".
"Seeing the players and the supporters connect and have that atmosphere. Players playing well with a smile on their face. [Players] wanting to come into work every day and wanting to be here. You can see it in them. Its camararderie....you know. Celebrating wins like that with the supporters is priceless.".
"Its that drive to still want to get better". We have to be humble enough to understand whats happening. We`ve been on a good run, but we still need to improve.
"If you dont try, its never gonna work". We can realistically expect the players to step up and produce even better performances and results.
Cameron Archer?
What of his performance and his attitude?
"I think [it comes] from the people he`s mixing with. He`s a fantastic talent and has a willingness to learn. To see him smiling was fantastic. He`s got a freshness about him. Hes a terrific lad."
Aaron Ramsey?
"I thought he stepped in great" - for his brief appearance as sub on Wednesday night. That is praise indeed from a man of Carricks acheivements and stature [but he wont admit it].
Hayden Hackney?
"I`de say he goes about his business quietly, but everyone is recognising how good he`s been playing." carrick continued how Hackney has been pushing himself in training, doing extra and working on his own to improve his game. Carrick said he liked that in a player. "He just does what hes good at and thats what I love to see". Hackney has no arrogance and is never "in your face", according to our Head Coach.
Zak?
"The first thing I said to him after the game....he made a couple of big(!) big(!) saves for us. He certainly stepped up when we needed him".
So, its on to QPR. Our next challenge.There will, no doubt, be a big crowd - it appears to be swelling game-by-game. Its going to be an electric atmosphere, but we wont be complacent. After that performance on Wednesday, can we get better? Its an exciting time to be a Boro fan [Not often we can say that]! Its a joy to watch our team play. More of the same tomorrow please........

Whats not to say about that top class performance against the Blades at Bramall Lane on Wednesday? Surely our best performance [so far] this season? Its getting that every game breaks new barriers, our players show more and more what they are capable of as individuals and a team. The never-say-die spirit pervades all areas of our play and the connect between us fans and the boys on the pitch an Michael Carrick - is just magic. To use a Michael Carrick quote "lets not get carried away" - but lets enjoy every moment. Its no exageration to say this team is playing football like no-other Boro side for years! Its a joy to watch.
Its more difficult every game to pick a "Man of The Match"; on Wednesday they all deserved it. Zak made some crucial saves, Chuba added to his 17 goal tally, Cameron Archer is Flippin magic (!), Riley McGree gets better every game and Hayden Hackney is just fantastic. We made Sheffield United look ordinary - their bustling, physical [Championship style] approach was outclassed by our one-touch football.
We looked like a Premier side who had dropped in to a football jumble sale and left with the match ball and three valuable points. They couldnt cope. Apart from the freebie we gifted them at the beginning, we choked the life out of them. Our fans were magnificent. Even if we just watched it on the box - all you could hear was Boro chants and encouragement for the full 90!
It was pleasing to see Paul Heckingbottom hit the target more than his forwards - being sent off the touchline for hoofing the second refs score-board. By the time our second one bust the back of the net, the Bramall Lane "faithful" were leaving in droves. Those who talked themselves up before we arrived - were left knowing they had been well and truly spanked.
The deficit from third to second is now only seven points! Despite them having a game in hand, they have a cup game coming up against Spurs and a tricky trip to Millwall [Come on agent Duncan!]. But we will do what Carrick insists we always do and focus on our own game. Is it too early to mention the "P" word? Who knows? But maybe we can catch Blades and....................?!!!!
