After that great performance against Sheffield United on Tuesday evening at The Riverside, we need to push on and take three points today, before going into the International Break.

Here are today`s Championship fixtures:

Hull City have had a tough start to the their first season back in the Championship, following promotion from the third tier. [Take note Sun`lun]. We know what that means....!

Not including last nights defeat of West Brom by Stoke City, here is the Championship League Table as we start today:

And to take some comfort from the Form Table - we are showing signs of improvement - but lets not read too much into that until the final whistle:

Middlesbrough make the trip to the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon having returned to the top half of the Championship table with victory over Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, Hull head into this contest looking for the win which could take the club outside of the relegation zone for the first time in more than a month.

Hull supporters will joke that they have been spoiled for goals over the past 10 days with two coming in as many home fixtures.

However, neither strike led to a much-needed win, and the 1-1 draw with Blackpool has left the Tigers sitting two points adrift of safety in 23rd position.
Grant McCann will be encouraged by how his players fought back to claim a share of the spoils against the Tangerines, the equaliser coming six minutes from time after they had earlier been reduced to 10 men.

Nevertheless, he would have viewed that encounter as a must-win, like he will ahead of welcoming Boro to the KCOM Stadium at the weekend.

Despite failing to win back-to-back matches in the Championship this season, Neil Warnock's side find themselves sitting in the top half of the table.
That is more down to the inconsistency of other teams rather than Middlesbrough doing anything out of the ordinary, and it will be perceived to be a bonus given their struggles this campaign.

Warnock would have been delighted with the 2-0 victory over in-form Sheffield United on Tuesday night, Duncan Watmore finally netting his first goal of the season with a wonder-strike.

Middlesbrough are still to score more than two strikes in a game, but possessing the fifth-best defensive record in the division has gone under the radar.
The North-East outfit have also gone five games without conceding a first-half goal, something which could stand them in good stead against opposition such as Hull.

Team News:

Josh Emmanuel is expected to get the nod at right-back with Lewie Coyle serving a suspension for this game.

Tom Eaves could be handed his first start of the season after scoring as a substitute in midweek, getting the nod ahead of Tyler Smith.

Richard Smallwood and Matt Smith are on standby if McCann opts to freshen up his midfield.

Warnock must decide whether to use Sol Bamba for the second game in succession with Grant Hall an alternative to the veteran centre-back.

Unless Uche Ikpeazu takes the place of Andraz Sporar, the rest of the Boro starting lineup could remain the same.

Hull City possible starting lineup:
Ingram; Emmanuel, Jones, Greaves, Elder; Docherty, Smallwood; Wilks, Moncur, Lewis-Potter; Eaves

Middlesbrough possible starting lineup:
Lumley; Peltier, Hall, Fry; Tavernier, McNair, Howson, Bola; Crooks; Watmore, Sporar

We say: Hull City 1-1 Middlesbrough [Thats 2-1 Boro mate!]

Warnock will demand that his Boro side kick on from their important victory in midweek. Nevertheless, consistency has been their problem all season, leading us to predict another spirited draw for Hull.

Hull - League History.

As a lad I remember Hull City being a club who languished in the lower leagues - success eluded them, but they have visited the Premiership three times since 2009.

Grant McCann - Hull Manager is hopefull of a positive outcome after their recent 1-1 draw against Blackpool. He gave his thoughts on todays game to Hull City TV yesterday:

In recent seasons Hull v Boro have been feisty affairs.
Trips to Hull have always seen a huge vocal Boro following and today is no exception - with 3500 reds heading to the East Riding.
Its not always been plain sailing.
Back in our recent brief Premier League stay in 2016 / 17 we beat the Tigers 1-0 at home, but got thumped 4-2 at their place!

Its not been the easiest of starts for Dael this season, but he is proving again that he is one of the best defenders in the Championship.
He has played in everyone of the ten league games so far this season. Hs contribution was integral to the victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday evening:

So far, Dael has made 139 Youth and League appearances for the Boro and he is still only 24 !

Neil Warnock on Middlesbrough pressure, Steve Gibson backing and 'dinosaur' criticism

By Craig Johns.
1633158281542.png

Neil Warnock remains desperate to bring success to Middlesbrough and believes he has the full backing of Steve Gibson to do so, despite some growing discontent from supporters.

Ahead of Tuesday's win over Sheffield United pressure was beginning to grow on the Boro boss after a disappointing start to the season and his relief at full-time was there were for all to see as his side won 2-0.

1633158572432.png
The relief was because, despite admitting plenty of times that at 72 he no longer fears the sack, he certainly doesn't want his time on Teesside to be over yet, with his strong belief that something special can still be achieved this season.

Reflecting on the important win days later as he prepares to take his side to strugglers Hull City, Warnock admits he'd be lying if he said he didn't feel the pressure beforehand.

“I don’t think any manager can tell you there isn’t any pressure. That’s how this job is," he said.

“In my case, all I can do is do my best. I know what I’ve got and it is a good group of lads.

“Everyone knows why I’m still in the game. I’m still in the game to win things.

“That’s why my biggest disappointment this season is that we haven’t eight or nine more points than we have.

“We quite easily should have done that because the games we’ve had that we should have won but have made mistakes… I just couldn’t envisage certain players making mistakes like they have done.

“So Tuesday was nice to keep the clean sheet and take two good goals because we should have had a lot more like that.”

Nobody is more frustrated than Warnock at how the season has started - though you only have to look at how just one result has changed the complexion of the table to understand that the disappointing start need not determine the overall outcome of the season.

1633158520821.png

From 18th, Boro climbed to 12th in the table and just four points off the top six. Their league position could be one spot higher too, with Reading, one place above them, expected to eventually agree to a points deduction with the EFL over breaching profit and sustainability rules.

A win at Hull this weekend would certainly send them into the international break with things looking a whole lot rosier than seven days ago.

“I think it just shows you what this league is about," Warnock said of the turnaround based on just one win.

“It’s whether you’re glass is half empty or your glass is half full. We’re either four points off the play-offs or four points off the relegation zone. It depends on how you look at it.

“I am still disappointed because results like the other night I know we should have had three or four games more like that and talking about catching the top two.

“So it is one of frustration so far, and I’m sure the school report would say: ‘Could do better’.”

Warnock still has full faith in himself to do better. Three more points at Hull on Saturday would certainly help.

But sections of the Boro fanbase had started to question Warnock's management of the club. He reads the forums and was well aware of the criticism coming his way.

1633158642394.png
But he warned such supporters to be careful what they wish for as he acknowledged the amount of support he'd received from supporters he meets in person, as well as fans inside the ground who have continued chanting his name throughout the disappointing period.

“All I can do is my best and I sometimes think it’s better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know," he said.

“You know, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

“If it wasn’t me and it was somebody else getting these results, they would be giving them stick as well. So you can’t complain as a manager.

“All I know, I do feel like the majority of fans are right behind me. From what I can tell, talking to people around the town and everything.

“I don’t worry too much about that. But you will always get it. I remember getting stick at Cardiff when we were second in the league and en route to promotion. There were people saying it’s time to change the manager.

“You’ll always get people like that. It’s how social media is.

“But I think in general there’s an appreciation of how much we’ve turned the club around since I’ve been here and we’ve just got to enjoy it now."

One such criticism from certain fans on social media referred to Warnock as a 'dinosaur', suggesting at 72, he was out of touch with the modern game.

It's one he does not agree with, and importantly for him, nor does Steve Gibson.

“They call me a dinosaur," he said with a wry smile. "It’s easy to say dinosaur football, so I’m going to be enjoying looking at you in the next few years and watching all this fantastic football and results that come easy, and I’m sure it won’t be long before they are on with the next manager.

“I think the disgruntled ones will be there if Gareth Southgate or Sir Alex Ferguson or anyone else is in charge of the team. They will always have a problem.

“Luckily, when I first started, there was no social media so it was more enjoyable. It’s difficult for managers now because they have the phone-ins, everybody is an expert, every fan you see has got an opinion, every director and every owner. Everybody is involved now.

“I’m very fortunate with Steve [Gibson]. I tell him how it is, before and after the game we speak and he’s the most supportive one I’ve ever had really.

“He was dead chuffed the other night really. He said to sit and watch that with the crowd like that, he said it was an amazing night for him and he thanked me for that. That’s what we are in it for.

“We’re in it to enjoy it and get the crowd going and I hope there are a few more nights like that.”

Interesting stuff there Roofie, must take you a while pulling it all together? Dael Fry has played more games for us than I realised, many in difficult circumstances.

Dean Windass , what a character, gave his all for us and all he played for, post playing career has tackled his demons.

Haven't been to the KCOM, but all my trips (2) Boothferry ended in nil nil draws!

Yeah. It takes about three hours to get the articles and photos together and another two to collate the presentation. It keeps me out of trouble and off the streets!

lets remember that unforgettable day back in February 2003:

In front of a crowd of 42,000 at the Stadium of ____ Boro beat Sun`lun 3-1(y)

You’re gonna give us a proper kicking today I think and your chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ will hopefully come true!

Without wishing ill on your club, I have nothing against Hull, I really hope you're right.

It's been nearly a year since we properly battered another team and it would calm things down up here going in to the international break.

Meanwhile - on the hunt for a left - sided player:

Neil Warnock responds to Middlesbrough transfer link with free agent Robbie Brady

Neil Warnock would love to add a left-sided player to his Middlesbrough squad
by Craig Johns.
1633164302345.png
Neil Warnock admits he is an admirer of former Burnley man Robbie Brady, amid reports that Middlesbrough were keen to sign the free agent.

Reports emerged a little over a week ago claiming Boro had made contact with Brady, with the midfielder still available on a free.

A left-footed player who has also filled in as a left-sided defender at times in his career, Brady could potentially add some cover in Boro's squad.
1633164460508.png
But asked about the reports on Brady, while Warnock didn't completely rule it out, his comments appeared to pour cold water on such a signing.

He said: “I didn’t see us linked with him, if I’m honest.

“Robbie Brady is a tremendous left-sided player with stacks of ability.

“I was surprised when he left Burnley. In fact, I think he was offered a new contract, so I’m not sure his agent has got it right for him.

“We are looking for that type of player on that side, out of contract.

“But you’ve got to be so careful because players like that won’t have been involved in any training with a squad and they’ll be behind. They’ll be training on their own.

“It’s alright looking, but unless the right one comes along, we’ll have to just muck on with what we’ve got.”

The fact Warnock makes clear he knows Brady has been available while saying they'll muck on unless the right one comes along would suggest a Teesside move for Brady seems unlikely, though you can never say never, of course.

Warnock had been keen to add a left-sided defender to his squad having failed to sign a backup to Marc Bola before the transfer window closed.
1633164490783.png
But he has warned against signing someone for the sake of it, while admitting slight frustration at missing out on a couple of free-agent options they initially identified - one of whom was believed to be Kean Bryan who signed for West Brom.

Asked after Blackpool last month if Boro were still looking for a free-agent Warnock admitted then it was unlikely, with no one left on the market really 'knocking his block off'.

There is also the financial aspect to consider. Brady, while yet to find a new club, has been linked with Celtic and turned down a new contract at Burnley this summer while Boro let full-back Djed Spence and midfielder Sam Morsy leave on transfer deadline day in order to bring their wage bill down and balance the books.

Have a feeling will be a good game today a 2:3 scoreline hopefully. Given my predictive record in football though this probably means a nailed on nil nil draw.

When you are in a run like Hull are....Boro are usually the ideal opponent🙄. Hoping that's not the case today 🤞

Really hope we beat Hull today. The last game with them irks me even today. Notwithstanding the fact that we didn't do much to try and get 3 points, for me, it just boils down to the fact that the biggest carthorse on the pitch that day (Malik Wilks) got the winner after persistent clumsy fouling and shirt pulling all afternoon.
Having said that Herbie Kane looked decent that day.
