The negative posters are out in July ffs

Some people want to be positive, but when operating in a vacuum of any positive actions or communications from the club, its easy for them to slip into a negative mindset.

Some people start out negative, not wanting to get their hopes up, but being pleasantly surprised along the way when things go better then they thought.

Some people would still be unhappy if we won 3:0 every week, because they revel in misery and would be unhappy because we didnt score 6 goals a week, or we didnt play in a certain way. They just cant help themselves.

Why judge before a ball's kicked?

We went up twice with Archie Stephens starting the season as one of our main strikers. I'm not dismissing his contribution but he wasn't brought in after one decent season in the 2nd tier. He was a lower league striker with a not particularly impressive record but he worked for us. The man with the impressive record who we splashed out a few bob for lasted about two minutes at the club, though we were all over the moon when he signed (see also Rhodes).

A mobile midfield willing to get into the box is as important, and that looks to be falling into place nicely.

Just the one promotion season corcaigh (1986/87) with Archie Stephens at the club, Bruce Rioch sold him in december 1987, he played 12 games 3 as sub that season, thn off to Carlisle

I get that as fans we all want news on signings, but from the clubs point of view it's better if there's no info' out there on deals that are in the offing or how much progress has been made. Any details that are in the public domain have the potential to derail the deal.

I've no doubt people are busting a gut behind the scenes to get in the extra bodies we need. I'm confident we'll have some of what we need before the season starts and then more still by the time the window shuts.

We still started the season with him. The transfer window doesn't close for some time yet.

I assume I am one the "negative posters" referred to, especially when you mention my claim that I believe that the manager may walk unless things improve.

Let me tell you though, I am not negative at all, far from it. I have bought a season ticket for the coming season for the first time in about 15 years, so am massively looking forward to the season starting.

I am just being realistic however. How anybody can be anything but negative looking at our forward options is beyond me. The only 2 senior strikers, if you can call Coburn that, on our books were not considered good enough to be regular starters last season in a striker group that is widely considered as one of the worst the club has ever had. The season also starts in 9 days. Before people just down my throat and say that "the window doesn't close for some time yet", yes, I am fully aware of that. But I am also fully aware that if you want to get promoted automatically, which is our publicly stated ambition, then you need to start the season strongly. With the options we have up front I just cannot see how that happens, so one of 2 things will happen; we will either be left behind by the clubs with better options or more settled sides, leaving us playing catch up in the early weeks, or we will miss an opportunity to leave other clubs behind.

4-4-2 have predicted us to finish top

But we have hardly got any players and only 2 strikers (one a promising kid, the other an injury prone but good striker) o_O

But we have 2 new keepers and a new right back (y)

Still plenty of time and it seems that many of moves in the transfer window come late in recent years. Jurys out until then.

We have 17 squad players presently- this includes 3 keepers. The season starts in just over a week. Yet you are challenged if you show concern at the situation?

Strange views to have. We can’t fill a subs bench at this time of writing. For those wanting to adopt the ostrich position feel free.

Others, not being negative or the childish phrase so popular with some - bed wetting- do have a level of concern - especially when the stark reality is we need 6/7 players minimum to come in.

Was flying ant day just recently.

Massively annoying, and hard to ignore, but just do your best to avoid and they can be forgotten about for another year.

The problem is what do we do?

Clearly the players we want, presumably our number one targets, are not being made available at this time by their clubs. The fact we aren't looking elsewhere and bringing other players in suggests that the clubs aren't dismissing us entirely, it may just be our valuations are still some way apart or they are needing to bring a replacement in themselves before letting our man leave (remember the story of 2 EPL players giving their word that they will come once the clubs allow it).

As frustrating as it is that we are going into the season under strength we aren't going to turn our backs on our main targets and opt for inferior options just because we don't have them in the squad before a balls been kicked.

We have a free transfer unattached player - Smith- he has played games yet still to be signed? A squad player no more. I would have thought we could have got this one over the line!
