Millions of sheep, pigs, cows, chickens die every single week for profit. Strange to focus on this where the animals are looked after so wellA horse is likely to die today that would not die if this race wasn't taking place. Two horses are already dead at this meeting. 60+ since the year 2000 at the Aintree festival alone. And for what? Profit? That's barbaric in my eyes.

The horses are looked after and kept in 100x better conditions than the animals that are bread for foodMillions of sheep ,pigs, cows, chickens die every day for food for humans to eat. Horses race for humans enjoyment and of course profit.

Just saying
I don't doubt the horses are well looked after in the stables. Stable staff love horses, without doubt.Have a good day anyway Sherlock and I am sure we both hope for a safe race, but if an accident happens and a horse is lost it will be a sad, sad day, not a savagely cruel, primitive and unsophisticated one….. in my eyes.
Your view is your view, I have said some humans are awful, people mistreat dogs, cats all living creatures, it is terrible they exist in all walks of life, maybe in every parish. Many horses, like many animals, including domestic pets would not be bred and have any life at all. The one question nobody seems willing to answer is: Is it better to have no life at all than experience some life where you are looked after well, even if that ultimately ends in a sad way?I don't doubt the horses are well looked after in the stables. Stable staff love horses, without doubt.
In my experience owners and jockeys are, in the main, utterly ruthless people though. Seeing horses getting thrashed (even with new whip rules) in the closing straight is not edifying. Seeing jockeys walking away from mortally injured horses as though their time has been wasted is sickening. Owners who want either prize money or insurance money if the horse doesn't make it is even worse.
The whole thing is repulsive, even if horses in stables
Your point about horses not racing if they don't want to must be a joke. They just get hit harder.
