The locked Boro shop Q&A thread

I’ve just accidentally clicked on there and saw the last message, which looks like it was added Wednesday gone? It says replica shirt sales this season are at a record high. It caught my attention.

When it says record sales, what was the record before and what is it now? Have we really sold more shirts this season than we did in any of the seasons during our 1995-2006 golden period? That would be quite mad imo.

I’m not saying it’s not true obviously as I don’t have figures to hand but it just struck me as something quite unusual. It doesn’t *feel* right.

Also I had to start a separate thread as I couldn’t reply to the existing one.

Oh yes it does that. Maybe ir is just me that can post.
I dont know the volume of shirt sales. Sorry.

Do you know where we can find those numbers? Or who I could email about it. It would be interesting to see them imo. At the moment it’s just a claim without any evidence or information. As I say I’m not saying it isn’t true, I just find it interesting.

You could email Nobby.Barnes@mfcrecruitment.org.uk

I've got the numbers of shirts I bought since 1982, it's very interesting how I've actually gone up 3 sizes during that period
Thanks 👍

Not sure most fans are really that bothered if there's been record sales or not anyway are they? Gibson might be.

It just feels like deflection from the fact the shop regularly is out of stock and people haven't been able to buy shirts at times throughout the season and particularly in the run up to Christmas.

I mean it's a fact that that has happened at least 2 seasons in a row now and I don't get the impression the club see it an issue. Either pretending it isn't really one (and insulting everyone's intelligence in the process) or making excuses that aren't relevant such as "record sales" or "it's important we're not overstocked".

Just think how much bigger the "record sales" numbers would be if everyone who wanted the stuff could get it!

There was nothing in those answers that accepted they've been cocking up with regards to stock. In fact they clearly still think they've been doing a great job so I wouldn't expect anything to change next season on that front.

Under Errea, first time, never had issues getting replica kit for me or my daughter.
Adidas, crowds slumped, again no problems.
Into the PL, crowds return, no problem.
Hummel crowds dipped, no problem.
Errea return, crowds increase - shyte.

There may be record numbers - that's great for the club - but how many disappointed/frustrated fans who have been left banging their heads trying to get kit? These fans have just been dismissed as an irrelevance. And how many have took their money elsewhere - we did.

Yeah it just feels like… a record in comparison to when, or what? Have Boro really sold more shirts this season than they did when Rav signed? Or the season after when Merson pitched up. You used to have queues around the stadium to buy the shirts in those days. How many of the 2004-05 shirts did they sell, the 70s-style shirt for our first season in Europe.

I would just love to know the context around the claim about this season’s record sales.

Even when we were a ST sell out in the 90s, moving into the 00s I never had any issue whatsoever in buying a home or away shirt, Errea,XL. None.

Now, suddenly, more fans are paying more money for replica kits and it's boom time? Is this represented in the stadium - certainly haven't noticed anything hugely different with more shirts on display. Now if they had said Clone Island or CD Company stuff.......

It was bad enough last season, this season was considerably worse. And that's applauded by the club as being a huge success? 😳😳

No online sales in the Rav, Juninho days though.

Must play a big part with the amount of Boro expats around the world

Surely it is more a cash / money 'record' than on single shirts sold numbers? As in during the Rav / TLF era they made £20 a shirt and sold 15000 say, now they make £45 a shirt but sell 8500?

Maybe?

This is almost certainly the first season in about ten years that I haven't got me or my lad a couple of shirts or another bit of merchandise, purely because it was either tat or nil stock on the four or five times I tried.

Yeah it just seems mad. Will be interesting to see if we ever get any figures or details made public. I’d be staggered if we sold more shirts this season than we did in 96/97 and 97/98.
