The Little Fella: How Middlesbrough Fell in Love with Juninho

Not jealousy but maybe more that McClaren felt Juninho's days were numbered, so sad to say and he did only play 14 times at Celtic. McClaren wanted to chart a new route with Mark Viduka coming in and Mendieta and Zenden carrying out more and more of the supply route. When you look at the successes of the next two seasons, especially in Europe then it is hard to argue with the decision as devastating it was at the time. I remember the evening well away at Fulham, talking to former Boro scout and MP Alan Keen, he was really annoyed and disapppointed by the decision. But Viduka scored that night at Craven Cottage and it did feel like a changing of the guard.
Alan never agreed with the decision and it was something he did bring up if we bumped into each other at other Boro games.
