The Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge on fire

I think Tony Hicks was the drummer?
Had the pleasure of meeting him in Dr Browns around 15 years ago. He was sadly diagnosed with cancer shortly after and passed away. Really nice man and fantastic musician.
Used to drink with him on occasions when he lived in Brighton. Cracking bloke.

This is serious and genuine . My wife and I stayed over one night in one of the older rooms and only had a couple of beers ( honest ) with meal and retired to bed early .

During the night I woke up and was definitely awake . Stood at the end of the bed was a man who I could not make anything out above the waist , but I identified as wearing riding breaches ( I know bear with me ) . I screamed as thought we were getting robbed and jumped out of bed , my poor wife nearly had a heart attack . I turned on lights and scoured the room under bed etc and even scoured the corridor and stairs . Found nothing and returned to bed with wife laughing at me . Next day put it down to a different environment etc .

My wife back at work was asked by the girls how the weekend went . She told them it was first class and before she mentioned the ‘ sighting ‘ her friend Anne said she and her partner Dave were going to go . My missus resisted mentioning the sighting as Anne was a delicate soul .

Few weeks after they were all sat at work again and one of the girls asked Anne how it went for them . Anne said it was lovely but a funny thing happened through the night . Chuckling she said Dave woke up in the middle of the night and saw a man at the end of the bed but the funny thing was that it was a man in horse riding gear but curiously he could only see above the waist .

When asked Anne identified it as same room as us ( can’t remember the number now ) Apparently my wife went white .
Sorry! I used to occasionally end up in the wrong room when I’d had an ale or two. I’m barred now.

The Lion Inn used to have a strange effect on my various cars during my young , free and care free days.
I often took whoever the lucky lady was at the time there for a meal.
Yet each time i went, my car always used to over heat just as i passing the car park at the top of Birk Brow..
Of course i HAD to stop to let it cool down 😉
