The Linthorpe Road Ground

* HELP NEEDED! SO FAR WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND PHOTOGRAPHS OF BORO'S FORMER LINTHORPE ROAD GROUND HOME SHOWING THE STANDS, PITCH, ACTION ETC*

Lots of people claim to have seen photographs (the only one we have is below) but none ever emerge so we thought we would try one last time and appeal to anyone who might be able to help!

The plan below shows the old Grand Stand (approx 50 yards long) from Middlesbrough FC's Linthorpe Road Ground, later re-erected at Ayresome Park. Adapted from an Archibald Leitch plan in the collections at Teesside Archives.

Please share with any football fans, historians etc who might be able to help.

There used to be a thread on the old board with some old footage of MFC and I'm sure some of that was from the LRG, although might be wrong.

I can't see the thread on there anymore so hopefully admin can help.

Don't think so. The very oldest film was from away games and then Ayresome Park.
There have been rumours of a photo before but collectors can keep these things to themselves.

I've seen an action photo of the last league game at Linthorpe Road when we drew 1-1 with Stoke

I agree with you, didn’t it have Tim Williamson on that footage also?

Do any pictures/photos of the Paradise Ground exist
That would be a real find. We have limited material to go on but the illustrations of Richard Piers Rayner allow us to recreate a Nops home match.

Am presently working on three Boro guided tours that you will be able to take from the Boro Shirt Museum exhibn this summer at Dorman Museum. This will include the fabled Paradise Ground of Mbro Ironopolis.
Using google earth the tours will also be accessible to Middlesbrough Library users as well as via tour guides like me.

The original south stand at Ayresome was taken from the Linthorpe Road ground. It was much smaller than the south stand that replaced it..

There are a few photos around..I think one was from a game in the 30's when we hammered Sheffield United by 8..a photo from the north side looking across the the Linthorpe Road stand...that picture is essentially what Linthorpe Road looked like...I can't find it unfortunately

Don't know if this link works to an aerial view of Ayresome with old south stand.

I think Linthorpe Road was lots of basic banking with that south stand that was moved to Ayresome.

It's not the Linthorpe Road ground photo...but it's the next best thing.
