Can we do a Sunderland?

Didn't realise they were that far off at this point, looking back they had just got beat 5-1 at home to Stoke, their next game was a win against... Norwich 😲

It certainly helped them that Blackburn, Norwich and Millwall both collapsed. 2 teams in the PO didn't end up in them. Cant' see that happening this year.
 
Season was a bit behind last season: knock on fro the WC no doubt.
This is the table when everyone had played 36 matches:

Sunderland were 5 points off the playoffs with a GD equal to the team in 6th.
Admittedly, we haven't played 36 yet, but best case scenario is we win our game in hand and we're 7 points off 6th with a much inferior GD (yeah, I know things can change before we play our game in hand).

Sunderland made it by their fingernails last time; 2 more points to make up would have broken them.
I think it's a bridge too far.

If you look at it a one game later though, they are then 8 points off.

Plenty can happen especially with teams playing against teams also competing for play-offs.

Can't see us doing it anyways as we are far too inconsistent.
 
It’s a huge ask and, as alluded to above, we aren’t exactly in great form. We got lucky on Wednesday night; let’s see how we get on tomorrow first….
 
Its a lot tougher for us to do what they did last season.

We need to close the gap to no more than 4 points by match 44 before I get my hopes up.
