On TalkSport this morning. They were discussing whether it was Bryan Robson or Steve McClaren, and they decided it must be McClaren.
Wrong!!
It was Cardiff in 2004, not Wembley, and in any case Aitor took us to Wembley for the play-offs.in around 2015.
Hopefully the correct answer will soon be Michael Carrick. UTB

In fact on two of our Wembley appearances Boro have been led out onto the pitch by other members of the staff rather than the manager. Can you name them?

Whoever was leading last time we were there did a terrible job because we got lost and turned up late. Hopefully next time we set off a bit earlier.

The late, great John Pickering led Boro out onto the pitch at Wembley v Chelsea in the 1998 League Cup Final. John was Bryan Robson's coach and unsung right hand man and had been forced to step back due to illness. He passed away in 1991 after a long illness.
The much-respected John Pickering was caretaker at Boro for one game after the dismissal of Lennie Lawrence and that resulted in an amazing 5-2 victory at Charlton, including a Hendrie hat-trick. John was the manager with Viv Anderson when Bryan Robson was playing, out on the pitch. John's experience and knowhow played a key part in our promotion and the next two seasons of Premier football, with their cup finals and everything else.
John was rewarded with the honour of leading the team out at Wembley as an acknowledgment of all he had done for the club. A really nice gesture I think. Very good of Bryan Robson to step aside.
