The Joy of Painting

There's nothing wrong with Bob Ross. I think he's a good thing, and if he encourages people to have a go at painting and develop their own style then I think he's a great thing.

He did his paintings according to a well-practised formula and it's true that he didn't get paid for them. He didn't seek any payment as he saw them as a way of promoting his range of artists materials. There are thousands of them stored in a warehouse somewhere, supposedly worth millions of dollars, though I think it's doubtful that they are actually worth that much. They're pleasant and fairly decorative, but that's about as far as it goes. I suppose you could say that Bob Ross was to art what Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass were to music.

What a great programme and he came across as such a nice guy.

Always takes me back to the 90's when i'd come in from a night out in the early hours with a kebab and sit in a drunken stupor, stuffing my face , watching Bob create another masterpiece.

Might be getting mixed up a bit here, but I seem to remember watching 'Paint along with Nancy' when I went home for dinner as a wee bairn.
